A leader in portable and permanent power distribution solutions is seeking an HSE Specialist responsible for ensuring all safety and environmental programs, procedures, training, work practices, and controls are effectively implemented at the Faribault, MN facility. This position is responsible for identifying applicable EHS regulations and risks while interacting with Operations, Quality, Planning, Legal, and Engineering to support and maintain systems, ensuring compliance and conformance to company HSE Policies, Programs, Work Instructions, and Management Systems. This role will report to the Director of HSE.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate EHS program objectives by providing clear and continuous direction to the site.
- Utilize existing proactive safety tools and deploy improvements as needed.
- Train and coach operations staff on accident prevention and reduction activities.
- Provide expertise on safety risk identification, assessment, and management.
- Act as the site’s EHS expert and main point of contact for safety and environmental inquiries.
- Complete compliance activities to ensure company and regulatory requirements are met (safety, health, waste management, water discharge, air observation, permits).
- Monitor EHS federal, state, and local regulatory requirements and risks; analyze impacts and communicate to leadership.
- Develop and deliver health and safety training to staff, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
- Drive engagement of plant and support personnel in developing and implementing HSE goals.
- Maintain HSE documents and permit administration.
- Provide leadership to site emergency response teams and safety committees.
- Partner with HR on training and workers' compensation case management.
- Maintain presence on the floor as an observer, leader, trainer, and main HSE contact.
- Support incident reporting and investigations, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
- Provide input into process hazard studies and capital projects to ensure safety is prioritized.
- Oversee subcontractors and project team members for compliance with safety standards.
- Conduct inspections and audits to assess plan adherence and identify risks.
- Collaborate with supervisors and management, escalating issues and making recommendations.
- Assist in developing the HSE budget.
- Attend management and department meetings regularly.
- Ensure compliance with safety programs (LOTO, Electrical, Confined Space, PPE, PIT, Hearing Conservation, Respiratory Protection).
- Support health program compliance (industrial hygiene and exposure monitoring).
- Drive environmental compliance (air permitting, reporting, waste management, wastewater, stormwater).
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Health, Safety, Environmental, or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive work experience in health and safety.
- Strong written and oral communication skills with diplomacy and tact.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, email systems, and Windows.
- Ability to communicate in Spanish .
- Willingness to travel up to 25% to other sites for audits and initiatives.
Additional Qualifications:
- Demonstrated success in teaching health and safety concepts.
- ASP or GSP .
- Leadership experience in manufacturing environments and project teams.
- Ability to think independently and exercise sound reasoning.
- Proven success working cross-functionally.
- Skilled in leading others without direct reporting authority.
- Flexibility to occasionally work extended or later hours to support the second shift.
