Safety Specialist (Health, Safety & Environment) – Poplarville, MS
Major Responsibilities:
- Assists in development of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable HSE federal, state and local legislation and codes governing health, safety and environmental matters.
- Directs safety programs to ensure a safe environment is maintained and compliance with safety standards are met.
- Manages permitting, tracking and reporting for all environmental issues including water, equipment and air as applicable.
- Assesses risk potentials of workplace hazards and designs plans to mitigate employee exposure.
- Conducts on-site reviews and audits of operations and facilities.
- Interfaces with HSE regulatory agencies, including fulfilling reporting requirements.
- Monitors all current information on HSE regulations and requirements and modifies programs to meet standards.
- Ensures requirements of customer’s HSE programs are met by working directly with customer or compliance companies retained by customer.
- Ensures corrective action plan follow-ups are completed.
- Conducts accident investigation, data analysis, and recurrence prevention programs and procedures.
- Delivers employee HSE training including OSHA & MSHA required topics.
- Partners with the Human Resources Manager for workplace incident reporting and investigations.
- Investigates and evaluates all new HSE equipment.
- Responds and provides assistance to all emergency situations.
- Facilitates monthly safety committee meetings while ensuring appropriate participation amongst all departments.
- Provides monthly safety reviews during all staff meetings, in addition to any necessary training that needs to take place.
- Advises managers to establish safety objectives, plan programs to achieve those objectives and consistently integrates safety into the culture of the organization.

• Working knowledge of health, safety, environmental and loss prevention procedures
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to successfully pass all pre-employment testing (drug test, physical,
audiogram, and vision test) in addition to random drug and alcohol testing.
Education and/or Experience:
High School diploma or GED; Associates Degree or Bachelors Degree from a 2-4 year college or university in Risk Management, Industrial Safety and Health, Safety Engineering, Safety Management, or closely related field, is ; minimum of 2-3 years experience in HSE field preferably in manufacturing or construction, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
