Summary
The HR Manager – Compliance is responsible for ensuring the organization’s HR policies and practices meet all federal, state, and local employment regulations. This role provides leadership in compliance, risk management, and employee relations while overseeing a small team.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations
- Conduct regular audits of HR processes including I-9, payroll, benefits, and employee records
- Serve as the primary point of contact for compliance-related inquiries, investigations, and reporting
- Provide training to managers and employees on compliance topics such as workplace safety, harassment prevention, and labor law updates
- Oversee leave administration including FMLA, ADA, and state-specific leave requirements
- Partner with legal, finance, and leadership teams to manage risk and support audits
- Monitor changes in employment law and update practices as needed
- Maintain accurate employee documentation for compliance and audit purposes
- Support HR initiatives in employee relations, engagement, and organizational development
- Lead and develop a team of three direct reports
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
- 5–7 years of progressive HR experience, including at least 3 years in compliance
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws
- Proven experience creating and implementing HR compliance policies
- Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in HRIS and Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage confidential information
Skills
- PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification
- Experience with multi-state or multi-site compliance
- Familiarity with UKG Ready
- Solutions-oriented mindset with strong problem-solving skills
- Background in risk management, employee relations, or auditing
Salary
Pay is commensurate with experience.
