Position Overview:
The Health & Safety specialist will actively analyze the work environment, local culture, and policies to continuously improve health and safety performance on site. This position inspects the workplace for adherence to regulations on safety and health.
This position inspects the workplace for adherence to regulations on safety and health. They help design, implement, train employees, and audit versus compliance on programs to prevent injury and/or disease.
Position may additionally travel up to another 10% to support other site audits and/or turnarounds.
What you will be doing:
Perform daily field audits such as permit audits, BBS, etc. 20% target time in field.
Periodically attend Operations, Maintenance, and or Contractor Toolbox meetings
Provide quarterly reports on training program status
Conduct health & safety Tours
Prepare & Deliver Plant wide Safety Meetings
Support the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) Meetings
Coordinate Industrial Hygiene Monitoring
Assist with all Trainings via video and out in the field
Handle all procedures and programs
Participate in / Facilitate / Lead Incident Investigations as needed
Prepare 30 Min Review and/or HS Alerts as needed
Assist with any other health and safety inspections and/or audits as required
Other special projects as needed
Qualifications:
High school degree or GED is required; Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience is
Min of 5+ years of manufacturing experience (chemical plant / refinery experience or similar industrial setting
REQUIRED )
2+ years' experience with in multiple HSE areas a plus (environmental, health, occupational safety, process safety, etc.)
Union experience is
Knowledge of OSHA & NIOSH standards, including PSM
Familiarity with industry standards & practices (API, ASME, NFPA, etc.)
Well-trained & practiced in Incident Investigation 5 Why and RCFA or equivalent
Well-trained & practiced in Emergency Response (HAZMAT, Incident Command Structure, First Aid, Confined Space Rescue)
Ability to comprehend, analyze, and understand the legal aspects of legislation and develop compliance programs to decrease facility process safety liabilities and reduce process risks
Works well under pressure
Effective communication/inter-personal skills
TWIC card required
Must well versed in MS PowerPoint, Word, Excel, & Outlook. SAP experience a plus
