Head of Nuclear Medicine and Imaging

Overview

The Head of Nuclear Medicine and Imaging role works closely with the Senior Leadership Team, to support leadership for the CSD Diagnostics Directorate. The role will be pivotal in fostering a cohesive multidisciplinary team and a culture of learning and innovation, underpinned by the Trust's WeCare Values. This role will support a multi-disciplinary specialty team of staff in strategically delivering the priorities, goals and objectives agreed with the Clinical Lead and the Barts Clinical Support Service Director across the following domains: Well Led, Responsive, Safe, Effective, Caring.

The postholder will be accountable for the operational management of the department, overall performance of the team and services in delivering and local health care priorities, ensuring safe, efficient and quality services, and improving patient experience.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Education to Masters level or equivalent qualification and/or experience.

Postgraduate management diploma or equivalent or in-depth knowledge in a number of management disciplines acquired through training and experience to degree level or equivalent.

Evidence of further professional academic studies, preferably in healthcare leadership, management, business strategy or project management.

Registration with a relevant clinical professional body (or suitable eligibility for registration).

Experience

Worked clinically or as a manager at a senior level

Experience of leadership and management

Proven experience of managing a significant service budget

Up-to-date knowledge of NHS system reform policy and other key policy drivers

Experience of clinical governance and of the measures to ensure patient safety

A record of partnership working

Experience in the provision of advice to consultant radiologists and other professional staff

Track record of managing and developing staff

Track record of addressing poor performance

A strong understanding of the current context of health and social care, and of clinical learning and research

A good understanding of the specific issues in East London relevant to health and social care

A broad understanding of the systems for primary care, social care and commissioning

Knowledge of the Trust priorities

In-depth professional knowledge in a number of management disciplines e.g. performance management, staff management acquired through training and experience over extended period

Knowledge of the use of ionising and non-ionising radiation in healthcare

High level of understanding of patient and staff risks arising from equipment and procedural failures

Knowledge of policies and initiatives in imaging services
