Hazardous Waste Materials Environmental Technician

HireUp Talent is partnering to find a dedicated and safety-conscious Hazardous Waste Materials Environmental Technician. In this role, you will be responsible for the proper handling, collection, packaging, storage, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., EPA, DOT, OSHA).
This role is ideal for someone with a military background, positive attitude, and willingness to learn.
This position is Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm located by the Savannah Airport.
Compensation is $22.00 to $25.00 per hour based on experience.
Forklift certified is a MUST.
OSHA 40 hours training can be provided.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify, collect, segregate, label, and prepare hazardous and non-hazardous waste for material handling storage and disposal requirements.
- Operate drum handling equipment, forklifts, and other waste management tools as needed.
- Perform routine inspections of waste accumulation and storage areas.
- Conduct waste characterization and assist with profiling materials for proper disposal.
- Ensure compliance with RCRA, DOT, and other regulatory agency requirements.
- Maintain detailed and accurate waste inventory and manifest records.
- Respond to chemical spills and emergency cleanup operations in accordance with safety protocols.
- Support audits, inspections, and reporting related to environmental compliance.
- Collaborate with internal departments and external vendors to coordinate waste shipments and pickups.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) from accredited school
- 3 years of experience handling hazardous waste or working in an environmental services role
- Knowledge of applicable environmental regulations (RCRA, DOT, OSHA)
- Valid and clear drivers license
- Ability to wear and work in required PPE, including respirators
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening

- HAZWOPER (40-hour) certification
- Forklift certification
- Associate's degree or higher in Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, or related field
- Experience in lab pack or industrial waste management

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Physical stamina to lift up to 50 lbs and work in various weather conditions
Work Environment:
- Primarily onsite in industrial or field settings
- Exposure to hazardous materials, chemicals, and high-noise areas
- PPE is provided and required at all times in designated zones
