Job Description
Have you recently graduated from university and looking to start your engineering career? I am working with a leading design and build consultancy specialising in high-performance, mission-critical environments in the Reading area. With a strong reputation for delivering innovative, energy-efficient, and resilient data centre solutions, they partner with global clients to shape the next generation of digital infrastructure.\n\nAs they continue to expand, they are seeking a motivated Graduate Mechanical Engineer to join their dynamic, multidisciplinary team.\n\nThe Role\nAs a Graduate Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in the design, coordination, and delivery of mechanical systems for cutting-edge data centre projects.
Working under the guidance of experienced engineers, you will gain exposure to all project stages from concept and feasibility through detailed design, construction support, and commissioning.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\n * Assist in the design and specification of mechanical systems including cooling, ventilation, piping, and fire protection.\n\n * Support load calculations, equipment selection, and performance modelling.\n\n * Produce technical drawings, schematics, and project documentation.\n\n * Collaborate with electrical, structural, and project management teams to deliver integrated solutions.\n\n * Contribute to sustainability, efficiency, and risk-mitigation strategies.\n\n * Conduct site visits, surveys, and inspections when required.\n\n * Stay informed of industry trends, standards, and innovative technologies in the data centre sector.\n\nAbout You\n\n * Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.\n\n * Strong interest in building services, mechanical systems, and/or mission-critical environments such as data centres.\n\n * Ideally exposure to IES Energy modelling similar (desirable but not essential).\n\n * A proactive mindset with eagerness to learn and grow within a fast-paced consultancy.\n\n * Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.\n\nWhat We Offer\n\n * Salary £30,000 and benefits package.\n\n * Structured training, mentorship, and clear progression pathways.\n\n * Opportunity to work on high-profile data centre projects across the UK and internationally.\n\n * Support in achieving professional accreditation (e.g., CEng, IMechE).\n\n * A collaborative and innovative work environment where new ideas are encouraged.\n\nTo apply please send your most up to date cv to Rachael Dormer today.
