Position Title: GPS & Field Operations Manager
Location: Reno, NV (travel to job sites required)
Salary: Starting at $100,000+ annually (DOE)

Position Overview:
We are looking for a highly skilled GPS & Field Operations Manager with a strong background in earthwork and heavy civil site development. This role is responsible for building and maintaining GPS machine control models, managing drone-based surveys, and leading daily field operations, including crew dispatch and on-site coordination. Ideal candidates will have hands-on dirt experience, strong technical capabilities, and the leadership skills to drive productivity and precision in fast-paced grading environments.
Key Responsibilities:
GPS Modeling & Site Technology

Build accurate 3D GPS machine control models using Topcon 3D Office and AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Interpret grading plans, utility layouts, and sitework drawings to create detailed models for machine control.

Coordinate with surveyors, engineers, and project managers to align digital models with field conditions.

Upload, update, and maintain GPS files across machines and multiple active project sites.

Provide GPS troubleshooting and on-site support for operators and foremen.
Drone Surveying & Aerial Mapping

Operate drones to capture high-resolution aerial data for topographic modeling, volumetric analysis, and site progress documentation.

Process and analyze drone data using platforms such as DroneDeploy, Pix4D, or similar.

Ensure all drone operations meet FAA Part 107 compliance standards.

Deliver accurate maps and reports for use in takeoffs, billing, and project tracking.
Field Operations & Crew Dispatch

Coordinate daily dispatch for field crews (25+ operators/laborers), including equipment scheduling and labor assignments.

Conduct regular job site visits to verify GPS implementation, monitor progress, and resolve field issues in real-time.

Support grading and sitework operations to maintain production goals, safety standards, and project schedules.

Track performance, attendance, and adherence to safety protocols across all field operations.
Leadership & Training

Train field staff on GPS machine operation, layout interpretation, and drone-based technology.

Act as a communication hub between field teams, project managers, and leadership.

Contribute to hiring, onboarding, and team development for field personnel.

Champion the use of innovative technology to improve job site efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications:

3–5+ years of experience in GPS model building, construction layout, and earthwork operations.

Proficient with Topcon 3D Office, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and machine control systems.

Experience operating drones and processing data; FAA Part 107 Certification (or ability to obtain within 60 days).

Previous experience dispatching field crews and managing dirt-focused logistics.

Strong understanding of mass grading, over-excavation, and site balance strategies.

Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

Valid driver's license and ability to travel to active project sites regularly.
