Job Description

Generator Engineer (Field Service Mechanical Engineer)\n\nLocation: UK ( travel required)\n Travel: Frequent travel & overnight stays required\n Reporting to: Operations Manager\n\nThe Role\n\nWe are seeking an experienced Generator Engineer to support the maintenance, overhaul, and reliability of a fleet of reciprocating gas engine generator assets.\n\nThis is a field-based role working across the UK on facilities ranging from 100kW to 20MWe, with individual units up to 2.5MWe.\n\nYou will play a key role in ensuring maximum availability, efficiency, and performance of assets, working closely with operations and engineering teams.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nCarry out planned maintenance, servicing, and breakdown response on assets\n\nLead and support major engine overhauls\n\nDiagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults\n\nReplace major components including:\n\nCylinder heads\n\nPistons and liners\n\nTurbochargers\n\nPumps and intercoolers\n\nSupport operations teams with technical guidance and training\n\nConduct emissions monitoring and performance optimisation\n\nAssist with recommissioning of overhauled plant\n\nMaintain accurate service records, reports, and documentation\n\nManage spares, stock levels, and parts ordering\n\nEnsure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards (HSQE)\n\nSupervise contractors where required\n\nParticipate in call-out rota for emergency breakdowns\n\nKey Duties\n\nMaintenance and repair of:\n\nGas engines\n\nPumps, motors, and auxiliary plant\n\nHeat recovery systems\n\nElectrical systems (LV, with HV exposure where trained)\n\nFault finding across mechanical, electrical, and control systems\n\nOperation of HV switchgear (training provided if required)\n\nImplementation of RAMS, permits to work, and safe systems of work\n\nSupporting continuous improvement and reducing reliance on external contractors\n\nAbout You\n\nEssential Experience\n\nProven experience working on reciprocating engines / power equipment\n\nExperience leading or supporting engine overhauls in a field-based role\n\nStrong fault-finding and diagnostic skills\n\nMulti-skilled with mechanical and some electrical knowledge\n\nExperience working with:\n\nMWM / CAT / MTU engines (or similar)\n\nFamiliarity with control systems (12V DC – 415V AC)\n\nFull UK driving licence\n\nDesirable\n\nGas Safe certification (or willingness to obtain)\n\nExperience with CHP or gas engine systems\n\nHV/LV electrical experience\n\nExperience in energy, utilities, or industrial environments\n\nPersonal Attributes\n\nSelf-motivated and able to work independently\n\nStrong problem-solving ability\n\nGood organisational and time management skills\n\nFlexible and adaptable to changing workloads\n\nConfident supervising and supporting others\n\nWhat You’ll Be Doing Day-to-Day\n\nManaging your own workload and travel across multiple sites\n\nSupporting site teams with technical expertise and escalation support\n\nDelivering first-time fixes wherever possible\n\nEnsuring assets remain operational, efficient, and compliant\n\nPerformance Measures\n\nSuccessful completion of engine overhauls and repairs\n\nHigh levels of asset availability and performance\n\nStrong fault resolution and first-time fix rates\n\nAccurate and detailed record keeping\n\nPositive customer and stakeholder feedback\n\nThe Business\n\nThe company operates across gas utilisation, power , and energy solutions, with a focus on delivering safe, efficient, and high-performing assets.\n\nTheir goal is to build a sustainable and profitable energy business, driven by in-house expertise across:\n\nGeneration & CHP\n\nGas processing\n\nRenewable energy\n\nEnergy storage
