About the Role:

The Gated Entry Installation & Service Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the security and smooth operation of gated communities, commercial properties, and private facilities by installing, maintaining, and repairing automated gate systems. This position requires a thorough understanding of electrical and mechanical components to troubleshoot and resolve issues efficiently, minimizing downtime and enhancing safety. The use of heavy equipment, including but not limited to, horizontal boring machines, concrete saws, trenching machines, concrete mixers, jack hammers, etc will be required. This role requires, included but not limited to, heavy lifting, shovel digging, concrete mixing, concrete cutting, pole/post setting, etc. Our organization is very proficient in retrofitting systems/integrations and most installations/service takes place while the business/community is operational thus a heavy emphasis on cleanliness and customer service is essential (some pre-construction jobs do occur). Most installations will require a large of working environments and skills including, but not limited to, conduit running, concrete work (cutting, patching, slabs, pedestal/pole setting, etc), attic work, aerial runs, trenching (machine and hand digging), extension ladder/lift work, relay/timer/trigger programming, cloud portal management and programming, computer networking, etc. A keen construction understanding of building infrastructure is essential to understand where/how we can run wires, conduits, underground work, etc. Experience with and a strong understanding of heavy equipment, hand tools, ladders, etc. is required. Certain industry certification and product certifications are required or will be required to be obtained. The technician will collaborate closely with property managers and security personnel to customize gate operations according to specific site requirements. Additionally, the role involves conducting routine inspections and preventive maintenance to extend the lifespan of gate systems and prevent unexpected failures. Ultimately, the Gated Entry Technician ensures that all access control systems function reliably, providing peace of mind to , employees, and visitors alike.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in electrical or mechanical repair, preferably with automated gate or access control systems.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical wiring, circuitry, and safety standards.
  • Expertise with above mentioned heavy equipment operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Qualifications:

  • Certification in gated entry systems, access control systems or related field.
  • Experience with various gate operator brands and access control software.
  • Familiarity with networking and integration of gate systems with security cameras and intercoms.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with a focus on customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple service calls efficiently.

Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and test automated gate systems including motors, sensors, and control panels according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements.
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections to identify and address potential mechanical or electrical issues before they impact gate operation.
  • Diagnose and repair faults in gate operators, access control devices, and related electrical components promptly to minimize service interruptions.
  • Collaborate with property management and security teams to customize gate access settings and ensure compliance with safety and security protocols.
  • Maintain accurate service records, document repairs and installations, and communicate effectively with clients regarding system status and recommendations.

Skills:

The Gated Entry Technician utilizes electrical and mechanical skills daily to install and maintain complex gate systems, ensuring they operate safely and efficiently. Troubleshooting expertise is essential for diagnosing issues quickly and implementing effective repairs, minimizing downtime for clients. Communication skills are important for coordinating with property managers and explaining technical information clearly to non-technical stakeholders. Time management and organizational skills help the technician prioritize service calls and maintain detailed records of work performed. Additionally, adaptability and continuous learning are vital as technology evolves, requiring the technician to stay current with new gate system models and access control innovations.

Work Schedule:

Monday-Friday with occasional weekends. Afterhours on call rotation and emergency dispatch needs. Hours vary based on client/company needs but generally have an 8AM start time to 5-6PM stopping time.

Travel Requirements:

Weekly travel throughout FL, GA or SC is common. All drive/travel time is performed in company issued vehicles, compensated at full pay rate, covered with company expense accounts and per diem issued.

Other Requirements:

The individual will be required to furnish their own hand tools, such as, but not limited to, screw drivers, scissors, wrenches, wire strippers/cutters, crimpers, sockets/ratchets, all formed of pliers/cutters, voltage meter, and any other hand tool needed to accomplish an install or service call. The individual must have no felony or criminal record, pass drug screening and have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Compensation:

The role has a window or compensation that will range based on experience. skill set and certifications held. Rates are negotiable and based on those stated factors but generally range from $20.00/hr - $35.00/hr. These rates do not include per diem while traveling, commissions, etc. Rates/Offers will be discussed and agreed to at time of hire.
