Full Professorship (W3) for Sensor Systems Engineering
Job Description
The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Freiburg invites applications for a Full Professorship (W3) for Sensor Systems Engineering as an endowed professorship, sponsored by Robert Bosch GmbH and Bosch Sensortec GmbH and accompanied by the Stifterverband in the Department of Microsystems Engineering to be filled as soon as possible. The successful candidate establishes a research and teaching program for system architecture and modeling, as well as integration of different (multi-)physical sensor sources into sensor systems with high sensitivity, specificity and resilience. Of particular interest are the codesign of hardware and software, mixed-signal circuit design, software-defined sensors, neural networks for sensor fusion, including the development of design tools, simulation methods and digital twins for the realization of virtual system prototypes.
The faculty welcomes experience with microsystems and cross-domain system simulation, as well as experimental technologies, such as neuromorphic chips or information processing via mechanical, magnetic, optical, acoustic or fluidic system-integrated structures. The sensor systems should be characterized by a low energy consumption and combine modern sensor principles with embedded systems, which, for example, enable the integration of motion and environmental sensors in wearables, small electronic devices or energy-autonomous distributed sensor networks for new applications. The willingness to cooperate with working groups of the University of Freiburg, and experience to participate in the acquisition of coordinated research programs (Research Training Groups, Collaborative Research Centers, Clusters of Excellence) and to establish cooperations with external partners is expected.
Prerequisites for the employment of Professors are a university degree, an outstanding dissertation and an excellent publication record. Substantial achievements and experience in academic research and teaching, at the level of a Habilitation according to the German academic system, are expected. We are particularly pleased to receive applications from women for the position advertised here.
The university supports individuals appointed to professorial positions through a Dual Career Service and a Family Service. The following application documents are to be submitted: Curriculum vitae Certificates of degrees and academic qualifications Short research profile and a statement about the planned scientific work Complete list of papers, patents, and invited lectures specifying the 5 most important publications; an existing Google Scholar Profile should be free from errors Record of projects acquired; the funding amount attributed to the own group/own person should be clearly indicated Record of classes taught and a short statement on teaching philosophy Short statement on leadership and supervision philosophy Application Please send your application including supporting documents mentioned above and the application form (https://intranet.uni-freiburg.de/public/downloads/saz/bewerbungsbogen-professoren-en.pdf), by August 30, .2025 at the latest. Please send your application in written or electronic form (via e-mail in a single PDF-file) to the following address: Dean, Faculty of Engineering, University of Freiburg, Georges-Koehler-Allee 101, 79110 Freiburg, Germany, e-mail: dekanat@tf.uni-freiburg.de.
