Position Summary:
Serves as the Engineer-in-Charge, coordinating with clients, conducting site visits, managing resources, and ensuring timely, professional project deliverables. Investigates MEP systems and mechanical equipment, performs root cause analyses, damage assessments, testing, and repair-versus-replace evaluations. Requires a licensed professional engineer with strong fundamental knowledge and broad mechanical expertise. Provides objective, technically sound opinions for insurance, legal, and other clients. Must be able to travel, perform physical site work, and work both independently and collaboratively with a strong commitment to ethics, quality, and customer service.
This is a Hybrid/Remote role. The successful candidate must reside in the Pacific Northwest.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Work independently to manage assigned cases, ensuring timely and cost-effective completion while acting as the primary client contact for budgets, work orders, site visits, estimates, and deliverables.
- Maintain consistent communication with clients by providing regular status and budget updates, addressing questions or concerns, and revising scopes of work as case conditions or needs evolve.
- Make informed, independent decisions on analysis techniques, testing methodologies, and resource requirements necessary to carry out each project’s established scope.
- Manage internal and external resources—including subcontractors—and coordinate with other technical disciplines when expertise beyond your own is needed to fully address case issues.
- Conduct onsite investigations, testing, and field data collection across residential, commercial, and industrial properties to evaluate conditions, document damage, and gather evidence of loss.
- Prepare detailed repair and replacement cost estimates and participate in client calls or meetings to discuss investigation progress, findings, and next steps.
- Develop comprehensive forensic reports that clearly document site observations, collected data, laboratory results, research, testing outcomes, and the technical conclusions drawn.
- Provide technical support and serve as an expert witness in depositions or court proceedings, explaining methodologies, findings, and professional opinions.
- Collaborate with colleagues, attorneys, clients, and industry professionals; maintain weekly case status updates; and stay current with emerging technologies, research, and industry best practices.
- Support marketing and business development efforts—including presentations, conferences, and technical content creation—participate in mentorship and training programs, and maintain required professional engineering licensure and continuing education.
Key Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including the ability to produce clear, comprehensive technical reports.
- Excellent organizational, time-management, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- High integrity and adherence to the Professional Engineer Code of Ethics.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively within a team.
- Skilled at navigating conflict, differing viewpoints, and communicating across varied backgrounds.
- Willing and able to travel, including occasional overnight trips.
- Proficient with PCs, tablets, and software including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF tools such as Adobe Acrobat DC or Bluebeam Revu.
- B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering required.
- 4+ years of forensic engineering experience (relevant mechanical engineering/design experience considered).
- Active P.E. License with NCEES registration and a valid driver’s license required.
