Fleet Mechanic

Under the direction of the Shop Foreman, the Feet Mechanic diagnoses, repairs and performs the following duties:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the repair of various heavy equipment which could include trucks, tractors, trailers, portable cranes, reclaimers, generators, pressure washers, pumps, air compressors, forklifts, skid steer, and other construction equipment
  • Removes components for repair or replacement such as starters, water pumps, radiators, brakes, wheel seals, etc.
  • Use hand tools, power tools and equipment such as ladders, precision instruments, pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, jacks, hoists, etc.
  • Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery
  • Performs routine scheduled maintenance on fleet rigs and equipment
  • Ability to be flexible with last-minute schedule changes, time of shift changes. Overtime work may be required
  • Perform other duties as assigned including maintaining parts inventory and daily housekeeping duties
  • Ability to adhere to Company policies and rules and to promote safety standards
  • Good time management skills to ensure assigned responsibilities are completed in an efficient and safe manner

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, GED, Trade school certificate, two (plus) years' mechanic experience working on trucks, trailers, equipment etc.
  • Federal DOT/FMCSA/PHMSA drug & alcohol program compliance
  • Working knowledge of diesel trucks and chassis components
  • Knowledge of hydraulic systems, air brake, electrical, and other systems
  • Computer skills, including work order entry and e-mail ()
  • Current state issued driver’s license (CDL but not required)

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to crawl, kneel, bend, climb and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders
  • Frequent bending, twisting and lifting over 50 pounds on a regular basis
  • The employee can be exposed to wet and/or humid outside weather conditions; and extreme cold and/or heat
