Position Summary:
This is a newly created position and reports directly to the Director of Finance. The Fleet Manager will oversee the organization's vehicle and equipment fleet by managing maintenance, optimizing vehicle use, ensuring driver safety and compliance, tracking costs, and developing strategies for vehicle acquisition and replacement.
Core responsibilities include but are not limited to implementing preventive maintenance schedules, monitoring fuel usage and other expenses, coordinating driver and technician staff, maintaining accurate vehicle records, implementing vehicle retirement and acquisition schedules and ensuring adherence to safety and compliance regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Fleet Maintenance & Repair:
- Develop and manage preventive maintenance schedules and coordinate vehicle repairs to ensure all vehicles are operational and safe.
Cost Control:
- Monitor and manage costs, particularly fuel expenses, by implementing strategies to improve efficiency and reduce consumption.
Driver Management:
- Oversee driver schedules, training, and adherence to proper driving practices and safety protocols.
Asset Tracking & Utilization:
- Use technology and record-keeping to track vehicle location, mileage, and status, ensuring efficient utilization and preventing loss or theft.
Budgeting & Purchasing:
- Assist in budget preparation and administer the purchasing of new vehicles, parts, and supplies.
Compliance & Safety:
- Ensure the fleet complies with federal DOT, state, and local safety regulations and industry standards.
Reporting & Analysis:
- Analyze performance data and provide reports to upper management on fleet progress, costs, and maintenance.
Staff Supervision:
- Select, train, and supervise maintenance staff and drivers to ensure operational goals are met.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or 5 years of management experience in heavy diesel, automotive dealership or public sector shop with a fleet of more than 100 vehicles .
- 5 years of DOT compliance experience required.
- 3 years of experience in management/supervision of mechanics, shops, and Fleet inventory management required.
- Experience with heavy diesel .
- Leadership & Teamwork: Guide, motivate, and support the team to achieve goals.
- Problem-Solving: Identify inefficiencies and resolve issues quickly, such as vehicle breakdowns.
- Communication: Effectively communicate plans, schedules, and information to staff and management.
- Technical Proficiency: Utilize various software and telematics systems for tracking, scheduling, and record-keeping.
- Organizational Skills: Manage multiple tasks and details to keep the fleet running smoothly.
- Analytical Skills: Analyze data to make informed decisions regarding fleet operations and improvements.
Travel requirements: As required by business need. Approximately 25%.
