POSITION SUMMARY:
Plans, directs, manages, and oversees the overall activities and operations of the maintenance department. Directs and coordinates activities of workers engaged in servicing and repair of transportation equipment by performing the following duties:.
JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assumes full management responsibility for the entire maintenance department including maintenance control, compliance, quality assurance and warranty administration of vehicles; recommends and administers policies and procedures.Manages the development and implementation of departmental goals, objectives, policies and priorities for each assigned service area.Establishes appropriate staffing levels; monitors and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; allocates resources accordingly.Plans, directs and coordinates, through subordinate level staff, the department's work plan; assigns projects and programmatic areas of responsibility; reviews and evaluates work methods and procedures; meets with key staff to identify and resolve problems.Assesses and monitors work load, administrative and support systems, and internal reporting relationships; identifies opportunities for improvement; directs and implements changes.Collaborates with supervisors and staff to manage and reduce expenses such as those for fuel and labor costs.Selects, trains, motivates and evaluates assigned personnel; provides or coordinates staff training; works with employees to correct deficiencies; implements discipline and termination procedures.Oversees and participates in the development and administration of the department budget; approves the forecast of funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies; approves expenditures and implements budgetary adjustments as appropriate and necessary.Develops schedules and procedures for and ensures adherence to routine maintenance and non-routine repair of all vehicles in the companys fleet.Establishes a schedule for recommended replacement of fleet vehicles.Investigates and evaluates cause and extent of damage to vehicles involved in accidents.

EXPERIENCE:
Required or Preferred:7 - 10 years of job related experiencerequired.
EDUCATION:
Minimum Formal Education:
Required or Preferred:Four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent experiencerequired.Graduate or professional work or advanced degree; or equivalent experiencerequired.
LICENSES and CERTIFICATIONS:
Required or Preferred:Diesel Mechanic Certification (ASE)required.Brake Inspector Certification (FMCSA Regulation 49 CFR)required.OSHA 30-Hour Certificationrequired.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
