Finance Business Partner – Construction Operations
Position Overview
A growing construction-focused organization is seeking a Finance Business Partner to support the financial operations, reporting accuracy, and compliance efforts for a large-scale operations group within a high-performance business unit. This role works closely with operational leadership to provide strategic financial guidance, improve visibility into project performance, and strengthen forecasting and reporting processes.
The position reports to senior finance leadership and requires occasional travel to regional offices and active project sites. Prior experience in construction finance or project-based industries is strongly .
This role collaborates extensively with operational teams, procurement, equipment management, risk management, accounting, and other internal stakeholders to:
- Deliver timely financial insights and decision-making support
- Ensure project reporting, forecasting, and billing activities remain accurate and compliant
- Identify financial risks, margin impacts, and cash flow concerns before they escalate
- Improve financial knowledge across project teams while reinforcing best practices, controls, and reporting standards
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with project leadership and field management teams to support planning, execution, forecasting, and risk management activities.
- Act as a strategic advisor to operational and finance leaders by combining analytical expertise with practical business insight.
- Monitor project financial performance and proactively communicate trends, risks, opportunities, and operational drivers affecting profitability.
- Support business unit forecasting processes, including revenue projections, profitability analysis, budgeting, and financial planning activities.
- Lead financial planning and analysis functions tied to monthly forecasting cycles and project cost updates.
- Assist leadership teams with annual operating plans, long-range forecasting, scenario modeling, and historical performance analysis.
- Provide oversight and support for project financial management, including project setup, cost tracking, margin analysis, audits, and issue resolution.
- Coordinate with accounting teams during monthly and year-end close processes, including cash flow monitoring, accounts receivable/payable review, indirect cost analysis, and project lifecycle support.
- Supervise and mentor project accounting staff supporting operational teams and active projects.
- Foster a responsive, service-oriented finance function that supports project teams and resolves financial questions efficiently.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline ; equivalent industry experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
- Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive experience in project finance, accounting, or financial analysis within construction or similar project-driven industries.
- Strong understanding of construction accounting principles and project financial controls.
- Demonstrated experience with:
- Project budgeting, forecasting, and cost management
- Construction contract structures such as lump sum, GMP, cost-plus, and joint venture agreements
- Billing processes, subcontract management, and change order administration
- Experience using ERP and project accounting platforms such as CMiC, Oracle, or similar systems.
- Advanced Excel and data analysis capabilities; familiarity with reporting and business intelligence tools such as Power BI is a plus.
- Strong analytical thinking, communication skills, and the ability to build relationships across multiple levels of an organization.
- Self-directed, highly organized, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
- Proven problem-solving ability and sound decision-making skills.
- Demonstrates accountability, initiative, and a collaborative mindset in cross-functional environments.
