The Electric Motor Field Service Technician at the Master level operates with advanced expertise to ensure high standards of maintenance, repair and installation of electro-mechanical equipment and rotating apparatuses. The technician often serves as the on-site lead while developing, implementing and upholding best practices in both technical work and safety compliance.

Beyond technical mastery, this role is deeply committed to leadership, mentorship and the professional growth of less-experienced techs. A master-level tech actively fosters a culture of knowledge-sharing, teamwork and continuous improvement across the field service team. The position is an hourly position.

Technical Knowledge & Expertise

  • Advanced knowledge of the disassemble and reassemble various types of rotating equipment, such as pumps, centrifugal, submersible, vertical, turbine, gear reducers, electric motors, and blowers.
  • Set tolerances for bearing fit and clearances, motor connections and testing.
  • Expert knowledge of SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for division. May help in the development of new SOPs.
  • Share knowledge of MSDS/SDS use for chemicals and lubricants.
  • Ensure less experienced techs understand any industry jargon or acronyms used.
  • Act as the electric motor subject matter expert for tool usage and regulatory compliance.
  • Prior to trip, ensure that all team members are qualified (by the customer) to go on-site to the customer location.
  • Deep understanding of electrical testing theories and the rationale behind each test.
  • Take ownership of high-risk or technically challenging installations.
  • Troubleshoot and make decisions about unexpected field conditions.
  • Provide advanced analysis on complex failures that involve systemic issues (design flaws, manufacturing defects, repeated field failures).
  • Maintain advanced vibration analysis skills that can be attained in about 10 years or equivalent to a level II certification. (equipment and maintenance, data analyses and prepare reports).
  • Demonstrate advanced balancing skills (equipment operation and maintenance, prepare results, completing reports, etc.).
  • Demonstrate advanced skills in laser alignment (equipment operation and maintenance, alignment, soft foot, thermal growth, base levelness and completion of reports).
  • Demonstrate advanced skills in Eletrum winding testing (equipment and maintenance, field testing and completion of reports.
  • Demonstrate advanced skills in EM diod wheel testing (equipment operation and maintenance).
  • Demonstrate advanced skills in working with dry ice blasting(Co2 cleaning).
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of high torque (equipment operation and maintenance).
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of hot stick and non-touch voltage detector usage.
  • Able to work independently with strong self-management and professionalism.
  • Able to complete work within assigned deadlines.
  • Uses knowledge of machining and winding in duties including motor testing and failure analysis.

Safety Leadership & Compliance

  • Lead compliance with industry standards, safety and company/customer policies.
  • Design and implement job-specific safety plans for complex or high-risk projects.
  • Oversee lockout/tagout (LOTO) process and ensure all team members follow them correctly.
  • Possess a full understanding of OSHA regulatory requirements and how they impact field work.
  • Demonstrate proper safety procedures for confined space entry, electrical safety practices, proper lifting procedures, etc.
  • Be aware of surroundings, identify hazards and stop unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Ensure all precautions are taken when working with equipment.
  • Ensure safe use and storage of hand tools and power tools.
  • Use forklifts, hoists, lifts and similar equipment safely and in accordance with company standards. Keep constant control of the load.
  • Maintain and model calm, decisive action during unexpected safety issues or near misses.
  • Lead shutdown and re-energize plans related to electrical testing safely and according to procedure.
  • Design and implement job-specific safety plans for complex or high-risk projects.

Documentation & Client Interaction

  • Complete all required paperwork and documentation accurately.
  • Ensure correct documentation of safety permits, training records and audits.
  • Interface directly with clients during service calls, explaining repair need and status.
  • Provide detailed repair documentation and contribute to the post-repair evaluations.
  • Demonstrate how to use Springpoint software to review job schedule, punch in and out, transfer from job to job, review punches for accuracy, complete daily report, create quick POs, get signatures, attach pictures, etc.
  • Manage jobs with provided work orders and scope, ensure projects remain in compliance with quotes or report to managers.

Pay:

Pay rate is based on work experience.
