Field Service Engineer - Navigation Systems

The Opportunity:

As a Navigation Field Service Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting customer installations of Safran Inertial Sensors, Inertial Measurement Units (IMU) and Inertial Navigation Systems (INS) and demonstrating Safrans capabilities to potential customers, driving growth of the IMU and INS business to support Safran Federal Systems and Safrans long term sales goals.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide on-site and remote support for customer installations of Safran sensors, INS, and embedded GPS/INS. Applications include airborne, maritime, and land platforms.
  • Establish methods and procedures for the installation of inertial sensors and inertial navigation systems.to be executed by the Navigation FSE and/or other members of the navigation team.
  • Analyze navigation system data and use the data to validate system performance with respect to system requirements.
  • Manage the navigation test lab at our Rochester facility.
  • Leverage a strong technical background enabling interaction with customers systems engineers, hardware/electrical/software engineers, and other technical staff members.
  • Develop new Government and DoD business, directly with the Government and indirectly through large system integrators through a thorough understanding of the factors that are critical to success of the customers mission.


What You Bring to Safran Federal Systems:

  • 8+ years of experience in inertial system or sensor design and development is required
  • Masters degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mathematics, and/or Physics is .
  • Hands-on experience including test and demonstration with inertial sensors, inertial navigation systems, and global navigation satellite system (GNSS), including test and demonstration.
  • Experience with military and civil qualification standards, including hardware and software qualification.
  • Demonstrated ability to process, analyze, and present inertial test results to peers and customers.
  • Technical writing skill and experience academic thesis, peer-reviewed journal articles, conference proceedings, project reports; ability to support technical writing with high quality graphics/ charts/ schematics is .
  • Demonstrable strong customer focus, ownership, urgency and drive
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to new technologies and learn quickly
  • Self-motivated, and ability to prioritize tasks effectively to achieve goals, comfortable with ambiguity
  • High level of skill communicating effectively across internal and external organizations, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, up to 50% of the time.
  • Ability and willingness to obtain a secret level security clearance is
  • French skills are
  • Knowledge in Positioning, Navigation and Timing technologies or related high tech industry is
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • The ability to remain poised under all circumstances, and to interact effectively with people in a positive manner that engenders confidence and trust.
  • Ability to reason logically and make sound decisions, to consider alternative and diverse perspectives, to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
