Job Description

As a Field Estimator, you will play a crucial role in evaluating project requirements, estimating costs, and preparing accurate bids for commercial roofing projects. Your expertise in roofing systems, materials, and construction methods, along with your analytical and problem-solving skills, will contribute to the successful acquisition and execution of projects.

Responsibilities

  1. Project Assessment and Analysis:

  • Review and analyze project specifications, drawings, and related documents to gain a comprehensive understanding of the scope of work.

  • Conduct thorough site evaluations and assessments to identify existing conditions, roofing needs, and potential challenges.

  • Collaborate with the sales and business development team to gather project requirements and clarify client expectations.

  • Identify potential risks, constraints, and opportunities related to project estimation and execution.

  1. Cost Estimation and Proposal Preparation:

  • Estimate material quantities, labor requirements, equipment needs, and subcontractor costs based on project specifications and industry standards.

  • Utilize estimating software, historical data, and industry benchmarks to prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates.

  • Coordinate with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams to obtain accurate pricing for materials, equipment, and services.

  • Prepare comprehensive and detailed project proposals, including cost breakdowns, project timelines, and specifications.

  • Present and explain proposals to clients, addressing any questions or concerns.

  1. Collaboration and Coordination:

  • Collaborate with the project management team to ensure alignment between estimates and project execution plans.

  • Provide timely and accurate information to internal teams to support project planning and scheduling.

  • Communicate effectively with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain quotes, clarify specifications, and address technical requirements.

  • Collaborate with the sales team to review bid results and participate in post-bid discussions with clients.

  1. Cost Control and Value Engineering:

  • Continuously evaluate and seek cost-saving opportunities through value engineering and alternative material and design options.

  • Identify potential cost overruns or deviations from the estimated budget and propose mitigation strategies.

  • Work closely with project managers to monitor project costs and ensure adherence to the budget throughout the project lifecycle.

  1. Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of project estimates, including all supporting documentation and correspondence.

  • Prepare and present regular reports on estimation activities, including bid success rates, profit margins, and lessons learned.

  • Contribute to the development and improvement of estimating tools, templates, and processes.

  1. Additional Responsibilities:

  • Handle additional responsibilities and projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field is .

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in estimating, preferably in the commercial roofing or construction industry.

  • Strong knowledge of roofing systems, materials, and installation techniques.

  • Proficiency in estimating software and tools.

  • Excellent analytical and mathematical skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in estimating.

  • Ability to read and interpret project specifications and drawings.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

  • Team player attitude is a must.

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

  • Knowledge of local building codes and regulations is a plus.
