Pace Systems, Inc. is a comprehensive provider of IT, Security, Electrical, Audio Visual, and Software Solutions based in Naperville, IL. We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Field Engineer to support a large-scale network upgrade at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, IL. This full-time, temporary role (August–November 2025) involves migrating legacy systems, integrating the Ingalls and UChicago networks, and upgrading wired and wireless infrastructure. The Field Engineer will be responsible for conducting on-site surveys, documenting network devices and cabling using floor plans and provided data, validating connectivity, and performing basic troubleshooting for wired and wireless endpoints. The ideal candidate will have foundational networking knowledge, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work independently across hospital facilities while following detailed technical instructions.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct physical site surveys of designated communication closets and rooms using floor plans and device lists provided.

  • Locate, identify, and document devices including MAC addresses, Jack IDs, and cable connectivity status.

  • Update and maintain network data records using Microsoft Excel and annotated PDF floor plans.

  • Follow predefined checklists to assist with scheduled device migrations and basic troubleshooting.

  • Identify and validate connectivity for wired and wireless devices (e.g., PCs, printers, medical equipment).

  • Assist with basic layer 2 network troubleshooting and connectivity validation under the guidance of network engineers.

  • Coordinate with departments to ensure access to clinical areas based on pre-approved schedules.

  • Walk between multiple locations within the hospital as required throughout the workday.

Essential Duties:

  • Perform legacy network device discovery and documentation.

  • Support equipment installation, activation, and cabling validation tasks.

  • Execute basic troubleshooting for network-connected endpoints.

  • Maintain accurate logs and report findings in daily progress updates.

  • Collaborate with technical leads and project coordinators to stay aligned with migration schedules and deliverables.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a field service or technical support capacity (preferably in healthcare or enterprise environments).

  • Ability to read and interpret floor plans and technical schematics.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Adobe Acrobat (markups and annotations).

  • Understanding of wired and wireless network components and connectivity (Ethernet, Wi-Fi, network jacks, etc.).

  • Basic troubleshooting skills for endpoints such as PCs, printers, and medical devices.

  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and follow detailed technical instructions.

  • Physically able to walk throughout hospital facilities for extended periods.

  • Knowledge of network migrations and structured cabling.

  • Familiarity with enterprise networking tools or inventory tracking systems.
