Nanion Technologies, with over 20 years of experience, is a leading provider of advanced technology solutions for automated patch clamp systems and innovative in vitro systems for membrane pump/transporter studies, bilayer recordings, contractility assessments, and cell analytics measurements. Our mission is to accelerate drug development and scientific discovery by providing high-quality instrumentation and scientific support. To support the increasing demand of Nanion’s products, and to provide premium customer service, Nanion is expanding the team in their headquarter in Munich, Germany, and offering a position as a Field Application Scientist (m/w/d) in full-time or part-time with at least 30 h per week.

The Field Application Scientist (FAS) – Pre-Sales Specialist serves as a key technical liaison between Nanion’s commercial and scientific teams and prospective customers. This individual will play a critical role in the pre-sales process, providing scientific and technical expertise to support instrument sales, demonstrations, and evaluations. The FAS works closely with Product Specialists, Sales Managers and R&D team to identify customer needs, deliver technical presentations, and guide customers toward optimal solutions based on their research goals.


Job Responsibilities

Pre-Sales Support

  • Collaborate with the sales and marketing team to qualify leads and identify customer applications where Nanion’s products provide strong value.
  • Conduct product presentations, product demonstrations (on-site and remote), and seminars tailored to customer needs.
  • Design and execute proof-of-concept studies or demo experiments to highlight product capabilities.
  • Prepare detailed technical proposals supporting sales efforts.
  • Act as a scientific advisor during the pre-sales process—translating complex customer requirements into viable product solutions.
  • Participate in conferences, trade shows, and scientific meetings to represent Nanion’s technology and engage potential customers.

Customer Engagement & Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with potential customers through excellent communication and responsiveness.
  • Gather customer feedback and communicate market insights to internal teams to inform product development and strategy.
  • Support onboarding and smooth transition of new customers post-sale in collaboration with the Support team.

A Typical Day & Work Style

  • Spend time in the field training users face‑to‑face or visiting prospects. Other days are spent working inhouse/in the lab, managing email, planning outreach, coordinating internally, and preparing training materials.

Qualifications

Skills & Background Required

  • Bachelor´s degree in electrophysiology, biophysics, pharmacology, cardiac safety, or a related life science field.
  • Experience in a customer-facing technical or sales support role is highly desirable.
  • 2–4 years of hands-on experience with instrumentation or assays (MEA (microelectrode array), Impedance-based instruments, live-cell imaging devices) to support customers effectively. Experience with technologies currently being used to investigate iPSC-derived cardiomyocyte biology and drug discovery efforts.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to explain complex science to both technical and non‑technical audiences
  • Problem-solving & adaptability: capable of troubleshooting unexpected issues in real time and working independently with technical support team
  • Collaboration skills: ability to work cross‑functionally with technical support team, product management and sales team
  • Willingness to travel (up to 40%) for customer visits, demos, and conferences.
