Job Description

A newly funded biotech startup in Munich is building a breakthrough platform that combines robotic lab automation with AI-powered modeling to optimize microbial production.


We’re now seeking a Lead Microbiologist to play a pivotal, hands-on role at the core of their R&D and project delivery. This is an opportunity to join a high-impact, early-stage team pioneering the integration of automation, data, and AI in industrial biotechnology to help companies scale faster.


What You’ll Do:

  • Working directly with the founders, you will lead the cultivation and study of a wide range of microbial species, including lactic acid bacteria, E. coli, B. subtilis, and yeasts
  • Design and optimize media formulations to boost productivity and stability, with the aim to expand into bioprocess development (e.g. feeding strategies, temperature, and pH optimization)
  • Build, validate, and standardize assays that inform media and bioprocess choices, supporting strain characterization, functional testing, and QC
  • Ownership of customer projects from experimental design to execution
  • Collaborate closely with automation and bioinformatics teams to create scalable, model-ready datasets


Who You Are..

  • Educational background in Microbiology with industry/research experience in probiotics/microbial fermentation
  • Extensive experience in designing and validating microbiology assays
  • Deep expertise in cell cultivation, media optimization, and strain performance analysis.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, comfortable operating in a fast-paced, early-stage company.
