Job Summary:
The Fermentation Process Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining fermentation systems to ensure optimal growth of microorganisms used in the production of animal health products. This role involves working with bioreactors, ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards, and troubleshooting equipment or process issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and monitor fermentation equipment, including bioreactors, tanks, pumps, and control systems.
- Prepare media and sterilize equipment and components according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Inoculate and monitor microbial cultures, adjusting environmental conditions such as temperature, pH, oxygen, and agitation rate.
- Record operational data and maintain accurate batch records, logs, and reports.
- Work closely with quality control and R&D to optimize fermentation processes and troubleshoot issues.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of fermentation equipment.
- Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), safety protocols, and environmental regulations.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in microbiology, biotechnology, biochemistry, or a related field .
- 1+ years of experience in a processing or manufacturing facility.
- Understanding of fermentation principles, aseptic techniques, and process control.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, SOPs, and process flow diagrams.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with process control systems.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Lifting and carrying heavy objects (often 50+ lbs).
- Standing, walking, and working for extended periods.
- Climbing ladders, scaffolding, or stairs.
- Bending, kneeling, and crouching frequently.
Shift:
- Daytime hours, Monday through Friday.
- Hours may vary, and some overtime will be required.
