Requirements:

• A Ph.D. degree and about 10 years of experience OR a MS degree and 12 years' experience OR a BS degree and approximately 15 years' experience. [Nuclear Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemistry]
• Considered an internal expert in area of expertise.
• Contributes to advancing knowledge in field of expertise through various avenues such as internal and external publications and professional society presentations.
• Can solve complex problems in field.
• Must demonstrate 8 years’ recent experience in design and analysis of NRC or DOE regulated nuclear facilities.
• Experience with finite element analysis is required.
• Must demonstrate working knowledge of STAAD, ANSYS or ABAQUS or similar computer codes.
• Must demonstrate working knowledge of Codes and Standards; specifically, IBC, AISC (ASD, LRFD, & N690), ACI (318 & 349) and ASCE (4, 7 & 43).
• Ability to perform work safely and be proficient in performing Nuclear Safety Program assessments.

:

• Current registration as a Professional Engineer in either Civil or Structural Engineering
• Experience in analysis for structural response to explosions (blast/detonation and deflagration)
• Experience with DOE natural phenomena hazard (NPH), Standard 1020, criteria
• Previous SRS experience
• Possessed an active clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years.

Responsibilities:

• Apply technical experience in field of specialization or broad-based experience in multiple technical fields, and use other technical resources within the company, to resolve complex problems.
• Incorporate advanced technical practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning.
• Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as having expertise in a functional area(s) of technical expertise.
• Develop solutions to complex technical problems in fields of expertise.
• Keep informed on technical needs within the company and technical trends in area of expertise in the external world.
• Be aware of capabilities of the work group and needs of its customers.
• Identify technical programs which can be carried out with little guidance and take the initiative to accomplish them.
• Lead task teams to develop solutions to more complex problems.
• Prepare plans including schedules, budgets and personnel requirements for solving major technical tasks identified by management.
• Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor expenditures of budget and review quality of work performed.
• Include research, development, testing, quality assurance requirements.
• Communicate the results and objectives verbally and in manuscript form to customers, colleagues, managers and oversight groups.
• Prepare reports for external publication.

Area Security Access: Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance. An active DOE clearance is not initially required to perform assigned duties. After award, the selected candidate will be notified when to apply for a clearance based on specific work assignments. Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years are .

Work Hours: A 40-hour work week is scheduled. SRNS utilizes various work schedules including 5/8s (8 hour/day; five days per week), 4/10’s (10 hours/day; four days per week), and 9/80’s (9 hours/day, five days on week AA and four days on week BB. Work week excludes SRNS holidays. Each workday has 30-minute lunch. Overtime will be expected at times to meet deliverables and will be utilized at the discretion of the Manager.
