Astrotech Space Operations is looking to hire a full-time Facilities/Operations Technician (Electrician) at our Vandenberg Space Force Base, California location. Astrotech Space Operations opened its doors in 1981. Our state-of-the-art payload processing facilities are ideally located to support launches from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station and Kennedy Space Center in Florida, as well as the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A FACILITIES/OPERATIONS TECHNICIAN (ELECTRICIAN)

Looking for a Facilities Technician (Electrician) with a strong background in industrial 3-phase power systems. Journeyman license , but not required.

Key Duties Include:

  • Support power systems configuration and validation in support of mission requirements
  • Conduct maintenance, repair, and modifications of all electrical systems; systems include Switchgear, UPS Backup Systems, Standby Generators, Lightning Protection Systems, and Building Grounding Systems
  • Perform hands-on preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, rebuilding, modification, upgrading, and testing of various facility systems
  • Perform other facility maintenance tasks on HVAC and mechanical systems
  • Perform mission operations including customer support, facility operation, and propellant operations (valet, loading, decontamination)
  • May provide cleanroom services and oversee vendors as required

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A FACILITIES/OPERATIONS ELECTRICAL TECHNICIAN

Qualified applicants must have a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 3 years relevant work experience. Must have a strong electrical background with 3-phase industrial power systems experience. Experience with general facility maintenance highly desired. Experience with cleanroom environments is . Position requires a high attention to detail, a results-focused team player than can adapt to change with demonstrated initiative and accountability. Must be a self-starter who can work both independently and as part of a team.

Must have a basic knowledge of computer use to include Word, Excel, and Outlook. Must have experience reading and understanding operational procedures and schematics. Position requires working with hazardous chemicals. Must be able to fulfill the physical requirements of the job. Must complete all required training to become a Fully Qualified Propellant Handler. Position requires accessing overhead cranes at 100 feet. Must be able to hold a security clearance, up to Top Secret level, to retain employment, and will be subject to a government security investigation. Must be able to work weekends, overtime, and off-shift hours for customer support if required. Must be able to complete tasks with limited supervision of work.
