About the Role

Are you mechanically minded, hands-on, and ready to support a dynamic scientific environment? We're seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician II to join our agile, four-person team on site in Madison, WI. In this role, you’ll leverage your expertise in equipment maintenance—repair, calibration, and installation—and play a critical part in keeping our laboratory, manufacturing, and building systems running smoothly.

Schedule: First shift, Monday–Friday. Start between 7:30–8:30am, finish between 4:00–5:30pm (depending on start time and lunch break).

  • Hands-On Equipment Experience:
    Direct experience with equipment repair, calibration, and installation. Background with laboratory, electronic, or mechanical systems, and strong troubleshooting abilities a must.

  • Mechanical Aptitude Across Contexts:
    Adaptable mechanical skills; comfort with diving into unfamiliar setups and diagnosing/repairing systems using sound mechanical reasoning.

  • Ownership & Accountability:
    Ability to independently manage tasks, follow through on commitments, and proactively solve problems. Reliability, initiative, and ownership are critical in our small, agile team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections, preventative maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting across all company facilities, labs, and manufacturing areas.
  • Handle work orders using our Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Schedule and escort outside service providers as needed.
  • Respond to facility emergencies (in a rotating on-call program).
  • Act as subject matter expert on building components or manufacturing equipment; assist management with decisions and train fellow staff.
  • Document work in line with department SOPs and ISO 13485 requirements.
  • Support the general upkeep of work and shared spaces.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 2–5+ years in facilities maintenance (commercial, manufacturing, laboratory) OR technical education.
  • Education: High School Diploma required; technical degree strongly .
  • Skills:
    • Superior mechanical and troubleshooting skills
    • Strong organizational and time management abilities
    • Attention to detail
    • Familiarity with MS Office and email
    • Valid driver’s license
    • Experience with Building Automation Systems a plus
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, lift up to 50 lbs, and work with hands/tools.

Working Environment

  • Work in Clinical and Research Grade lab settings; may encounter solutions and chemicals.
  • Use hand and power tools, testing equipment.
  • Work both indoors and outdoors; drive company vehicles as needed.
