Description
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Tufts University (Medford, MA, USA; physics) invites qualified candidates to apply for a tenure-stream professorship position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in the field of experimental High-Energy Physics (HEP) at the Energy Frontier. The successful candidate will join the Tufts ATLAS group and assume teaching duties and service, with a target start date of September 1, 2026. We encourage candidates with demonstrated excellence in research, teaching, mentoring, and community development to apply. The Tufts Physics and Astronomy Department consists of seventeen tenured or tenure-track faculty and has strong research programs in High Energy Physics, condensed matter physics, cosmology, quantum information, astrophysics, and physics education research. The HEP group conducts active and well-funded research consisting of LHC collider and accelerator-based neutrino programs that provide research opportunities to undergraduates and graduate students. Current activities of the Tufts-in-ATLAS group include maintenance, operation, and development of the muon end-cap alignment system, QCD precision measurements, searches for dark matter, and development of AI algorithms applied to various aspects of data analysis in HEP.
Qualifications
To qualify for the position, the candidate must have a Ph.D. in experimental High Energy Physics at the Energy Frontier with strong experience in analyzing Large Hadron Collider data. We expect the candidate to generate research grants after arrival at Tufts. The successful candidate will supervise graduate-student thesis research for the Ph.D. and M.S. degrees, and undergraduate senior honors thesis projects. The Department of Physics & Astronomy places a strong value in educational excellence, so candidates should show promise in teaching undergraduate and graduate physics courses and a commitment to evidence-informed development as a teacher. For an appointment at the tenured level, prior experience in teaching is essential, and evidence of innovation in teaching is welcomed.
