Job Summary:
The Welder will weld and cut metal pieces and products by using hand welding equipment, plasma cutting, and bandsaw.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Interpret blueprints, sketches, or written instructions to set up and execute welding operations.
- Operate manual and semi-automatic welding and cutting equipment.
- Align, secure, and clamp workpieces using hand tools and clamps for welding.
- Monitor welding process to avoid overheating or warping, and to ensure specifications are met.
- Weld small and large machinery for industrial welding and oversee machines that perform the same job.
- Maintain and repair all machinery and tools.
- Assess welded surfaces, structures, and components to identify errors.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols.
- Provide assistance in the stocktaking of welding supplies.
- Collaborate with the wider manufacturing team to ensure that timelines are met.
- Repair broken or cracked metal objects, fill holes, and build up metal parts.
- Performance maintenance on welding equipment and tools, ensuring they are in good working conditions.
- Inspect finished welds to ensure they meet standards and specifications.
- Follow safety protocols and procedures to prevent injury and maintain a safe working environment.
- Consults with engineers, management and other professionals on project plans and expectations.
- Plans details of work order procedures; gathers required tools and materials based on instructions and specifications provided for the job.
- Repairs and fabricates various items and equipment using cutting, burning, and welding techniques and equipment.
- Monitors the welding, burning, and fitting process to ensure parts are not overheated or damaged by warping, distortion, expansion, or shrinkage.
- Prepares, assembles, and tacks weld parts and surfaces to be welded.
- Maintains, organizes and cleans equipment or defective materials are discovered.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Proven experience as a welder.
- Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures(e.g., MIG, TIG, MMA, ect.)
- Experience in using electrical and/or manual tools (e.g., saws, squares, calipers, ect.)
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.
- Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing and other PPE.
- High level of dexterity, agility, and attention to detail.
- Professional certification (welding certificate) will be a plus
- Thorough understanding of machines and tools used in welding including designs, uses, maintenance and repair.
- Basic understanding of design techniques, principles, and tools necessary for the precise production of technical plans, drawings, models and blueprints.
- Excellent ability to read and listen to assignments given in a variety of forms.
- Basic understanding of mathematics as relate to welding assignments.
Education and Experience:
- Completion of a formal apprenticeship OR successful completion of an in-company, three- year training program required.
- High school diploma or equivalents.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to weld components that are vertical, flat, or overhead.
- Must have enough manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work.
- Must be able to see details at close range.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
- Must be able to traverse facilities and machinery by climbing, balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials.
