Expeditionary Network Engineer & Operations Center Specialist
Job DescriptionJob DescriptionDescription:
Summary
Safe Reach Solutions, LLC, a trusted provider of operational and security support services, delivers expert planning, logistics, and strategic support to organizations operating in some of the world’s most challenging environments. Whether supporting commercial ventures, government missions, or humanitarian operations, we specialize in crafting tailored solutions that meet real-time, on-the-ground demands with precision, adaptability, and integrity.
SRS is seeking a highly capable Expeditionary Network Engineer & Operations Center Specialist to support forward-deployed humanitarian missions. This hybrid position is ideal for a technical leader with both tactical field experience and operational foresight – someone who can establish high-bandwidth network links under pressure and seamlessly pivot to support real-time command and control efforts inside an Operations Center.
You'll work at the edge of connectivity, providing secure, resilient communications and persistent ISR support to safeguard aid workers, optimize mission coordination, and increase humanitarian access. This is not a static desk job – it's a hands-on, ground-level opportunity where technology meets life-saving impact.
Role & Responsibilities
Expeditionary Network Engineering (50%)
- Design, deploy, and maintain hybrid networks integrating Ubiquiti AirFiber, RocketDish PTP/PMP microwave LOS links, Starlink terminals, bonded LTE/CBRS uplinks, and MANET mesh radios.
- Configure and sustain Ubiquiti UniFi infrastructure (Gateways, Switches, APs) to support secure aid site connectivity, including VLAN and firewall segmentation.
- Conduct RF and terrain analysis using tools such as Ubiquiti UISP, LinkPlanner, and Google Earth for line-of-sight validation and microwave shot alignment
- Build, test, and maintain VPN tunnels and SD-WAN failover mechanisms across dynamic and hostile environments.
- Implement and monitor QoS prioritization to ensure real-time data flow for biometric processing, ISR feeds, and secure comms platforms (e.g., Signal, TAK).
CCTV & ISR System Support (20%)
- Install, power, and network remote IP cameras, CCTV feeds, and aerial/ground-based ISR systems at static and semi-mobile distribution points.
- Conduct power management planning for edge ISR and telecommunications systems. Maintain reliable power and connectivity to sensor nodes; troubleshoot feed disruptions and hardware issues in real time.
- Integrate video/data streams into centralized dashboards (e.g., NVR, cloud VMS, or COP overlay); enable alerting for anomalies.
- Assist in site selection, range testing, and network load planning to ensure uninterrupted ISR coverage under adverse conditions.
Operations Center Utility Role (30%)
- Augment Joint Operations Center (JOC) to provide technical troubleshooting, monitor network and camera health, and escalate issues.
- Support COP tools and live dashboards with updated links, feeds, and device telemetry to enhance field awareness and operational control.
- Facilitate comms deconfliction between aid teams, security, and host-nation entities (e.g., checkpoint coordination).
- Contribute to the daily operational rhythm through INTSUMs and mission logs, flagging key comms or surveillance events that affect safety or aid throughput.
Requirements:
Basic Qualifications
- Possess 3 - 5+ years in network engineering, field IT, or expeditionary communications.
- Direct experience with Ubiquiti AirFiber, NanoStation, Rocket M5, and UniFi platforms.
- Experience deploying and sustaining remote CCTV/ISR systems, including IP camera configuration and NVR/cloud integration.
- Strong working knowledge of routing, switching, subnetting, NAT, and VPN configuration in resource-constrained environments.
- Ability to perform basic RF path analysis, LOS planning, and link alignment using tools like Ubiquiti airView or similar.
- Experience working in austere environments with minimal infrastructure, preferably on humanitarian or defense-related missions.
Qualifications
- Familiarity with COP systems, TAK/ATAK/ITAK Servers, and real-time operations dashboards: Hobbyist/Interest in Position Location Information (PLI) beaconing technology
- Understanding of Power-over-Ethernet (PoE), solar/battery power systems, and ruggedized mobile networks.
- Background in incident response, cyber hardening, or radiofrequency (RF) troubleshooting.
- Exposure to ground ISR data workflows, including alerting, data logging, and integration with security or analytics platforms.
Physical & Travel Requirements
- This role requires extensive international travel, including active conflict zones. Travel may range from 50% to 100% of the time, depending on operational needs and assignment schedules.
- Candidates must be physically capable of working in demanding environments, including those with limited infrastructure and elevated safety risks.
- The position involves frequent standing, walking, and physical activity throughout the day.
- Candidates must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted.
- Assignments may involve deployment to regions experiencing active conflict or instability, including designated war zones. All employees must comply with company safety protocols and training requirements related to high-risk travel.
