Job Description: EUV Mechanical Engineer

About Energetiq

Energetiq Technology is the high technology, ultra-bright light source division of Hamamatsu Corp., a Japanese optical components and systems company. At Energetiq we are growing our market presence by introducing breakthrough products using our patented, ultra-bright Laser-Driven Light Source (LDLS™) and Electrodeless Z-Pinch™ EUV (Extreme Ultraviolet) technologies. These technologies are used in diverse markets for cutting-edge semiconductor industries, sensor testing, and in a variety of scientific applications. Our customers are sophisticated equipment manufacturers that operate at the forefront of what is possible.

Position Summary

Energetiq is seeking an EUV Mechanical Engineer to work with a team of engineers and scientists to design, develop, and document Z-pinch plasma EUV / x-ray light sources. A successful candidate will have a strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals (structural, thermal, flow, and wear analysis), mechanical design for components from variety of materials, and knowledge of mechanical tolerance analysis. Designs are expected to follow current best practices for DFM and reliability/quality including adherence to relevant safety/regulatory/certification requirements. The right candidate must be able to succeed in an entrepreneurial environment and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with engineers and scientists to design EUV / x-ray sources consisting of vacuum systems, high-intensity Plasma generation hardware, electronics rack assemblies, and beamlines.
  • Devise methods to measure, analyze, and improve lifetime and performance metrics of the plasma EUV light source involving vacuum / gas / liquid flow, thermal, plasma wear, and structural aspects.
  • Document the designs including BOM, drawings, FMEA/DFMEA, design history, and procedures while following NPI (new product introduction) guideline.
  • Write Corrective Action, ECOs and maintain documentation for the systems.
  • Evaluate functional and logistical capabilities of HW vendors and manage them.
  • Perform thermo-mechanical experiments as necessary to evaluate the designs.
  • Support manufacturing-related activities such as design/fabrication of jigs, frames as needed.

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; Masters preferred
  • Expertise in designing parts for a variety of manufacturing processes: machining, high temperature materials (metals, ceramics), fabricated assemblies, etc.
  • Experience with Design and Documentation of complex systems for production, with understanding of standard machining practices.
  • Capable of setting up and testing thermals, flows, and stress/strain within a system.
  • Fully proficient with Solidworks.
  • Capable of running tolerance studies on assemblies.
  • Capable of machining components using a mill and lathe with moderate tolerances.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on design and development; Analytical instrumentation or related industry preferred
  • Experience with plasma-facing systems and/or high temperature systems along with air / liquid cooling.
  • Experience with Vacuum systems involving pumps, valves, MFCs.
  • Thermo-mechanical simulation experiences with packages such as Solidworks, COMSOL, ANSYS.
  • Experience with Optics HW such as Cameras, Photodetectors, filters, and mirrors.
  • Product development experiences.
  • Experience with Gas transport simulations and experimentations
  • Additive manufacturing methods such as metal 3D printing.
  • 8+ years of post-graduate experience in Plasma R&D
