Job title: Estimator - Welding and Automation Equipment 

Reports to: Director of Processing and Estimating

Supervisory responsibilities: None

Summary/objective: Specialty Tooling Systems (STS) is seeking an Estimator to join our team. STS recognizes that the factors contributing to our previous success and the reasons why STS is poised to continue growing and impacting the Industrial Automation market are due to our skilled team members. The Estimator prepares cost estimates by analyzing proposals and requirements. 

Essential functions:  

  • Engage our sales team and customers 

  • Understand the requirements and challenges for each project 

  • Effectively communicate with customers, suppliers, and within the STS team 

  • Work with a variety of product designs, drawings, CAD models, sketches, prototype parts, etc.  

  • Provide quick budgetary quotes and fully detailed quotes while juggling multiple quotes at a time 

  • Estimate new projects, make changes to existing equipment, develop a quote that includes out-of-production customer capital, etc.  

Required competency, education, and experience:  

  • BS in related Engineering discipline, or related job experience 
  • 10+ years of related work experience- direct experience/positions held where specialty machines and/or equipment estimating duties were part of daily responsibilities. 
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of Industrial Automation, manufacturing techniques/best practices 
  • Proven experience with estimating the following:  
    • Purchasing supply items (robots, pumps, motors, turntables, conveyers, materials, controls, outsourced design, etc.);  
    • Processing (developing a suitable manufacturing process including cycle times, labor requirements, past movements, etc.); and  
    • Providing detailed itemization of entire project cost 
  • Must have knowledge in the following areas: 
    • Metals industry 
    • Testing equipment
    • Adhesive/bonding 
    • Plastics (assembly, sonic welding, hot plate welding, heat staking, ultrasonic, decorative, etc.)
    • CAD design (AutoCAD, Solid Works, others) 
    • Project management 
    • Production environment 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project) and file management  
  • Effective time management skills 

Work environment: Office setting in a manufacturing environment. 

Physical demands:  

  • Ability to regularly sit; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  

  • Ability to frequently stand and/or walk.  

  • Ability to lift or move up to 20 pounds. 

Position type and expected hours of work: Full time. This role is available to those looking for remote, hybrid, or full-time in office roles. 

Travel: Some travel to customers required. <25%
