Our client is a locally owned manufacturer specializing in large CNC milling and precision machining for demanding industries. To support continued growth, they are seeking a detail-oriented Estimator to join their Davenport, IA team.
In this role, youll develop accurate cost estimates that directly influence the profitability and competitiveness of projects. Youll analyze blueprints, specifications, and technical documents to calculate material, labor, and overhead costs, while collaborating with project managers, engineers, and production staff to deliver complete, competitive estimates that align with project goals.

Key Responsibilities
- Analyze Project Requirements Review blueprints, drawings, and technical documents to fully understand scope, materials, and specifications.
- Build Accurate Cost Models Estimate materials, tools, equipment, and labor needs; include overhead and indirect costs to create complete project budgets.
- Develop Competitive Pricing Conduct cost analysis, evaluate profit margins, and recommend pricing strategies that balance competitiveness with profitability.
- Prepare Bids & Proposals Create clear, accurate, and compliant bids in response to RFQs.
- Collaborate Across Teams Partner with project managers, engineers, procurement, and production staff to validate assumptions and align estimates with project goals.
- Maintain Documentation Track cost breakdowns, assumptions, and revisions to ensure transparency and accuracy.
- Stay Market-Informed Research competitor pricing, industry standards, and market trends to strengthen estimates and strategies.
Required:
- Proven experience as an estimator in a machine shop or fabrication environment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Proficiency with cost estimation software and spreadsheets (Excel required).
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional teamwork.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Solid knowledge of fabrication processes, machining techniques, and material properties.
- Familiarity with applicable industry standards and regulations.

- Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with CAD/CAM software.
- Professional certification in estimating or related discipline.
- Understanding of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and operate overhead cranes as needed.
- Comfortable standing or sitting for extended periods.
- Shop environment includes moderate noise and temperature control.
- PPE required: Steel-toe shoes and safety glasses.
