Position Overview
The Estimator plays a critical role in CEI’s success by leading the development of accurate and competitive pricing for our projects. This individual will manage all aspects of project bidding including quantity takeoffs, subcontractor and supplier quote analysis, and historical cost evaluation to produce budgets that are realistic and achievable.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, thrives under deadlines, and enjoys working with numbers to solve complex problems that directly impact CEI’s growth and profitability. This role is designed with future advancement in mind; we are seeking someone with leadership ability who can grow into the Estimating Manager role over time.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and execute the full pricing and bidding process for CEI projects, from initial takeoff through final bid submission.
- Review plans, specifications, and project documents to identify critical details and risks affecting pricing.
- Analyze subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure competitiveness and completeness.
- Develop accurate earthwork, structural, and plan takeoffs as required.
- Maintain and refine CEI’s estimating procedures, offering input to improve efficiency and productivity.
- Schedule and facilitate internal pricing review meetings, ensuring efficient discussions and timely decisions.
- Mentor and collaborate with junior staff, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and teamwork.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field ()
- 3–7 years of estimating experience in heavy civil construction (roads, utilities, bridges, structures)
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously
- Proficiency in reviewing plans and specifications for pricing insights
- Ability to make data-driven decisions under pressure
- Experience with estimating software (InEight, Bid2Win, or similar)
- Prior experience managing or mentoring team members strongly
