MasTec Civil is hiring an Estimator to assist in the growth of the Florida market. This position requires experience in heavy civil construction, especially roadways and bridges, and knowledge of contract delivery methods and contract types.
Responsibilities
Understand bid items, basis of estimate, and identify errors and discrepancies in plans, specifications, and documents, and propose solutions.
Read and interpret plans, specifications, RFPs, RFIs, addenda, and technical provisions.
Build green sheet estimates, breakdown activity structures, construction schedules, and risk matrix analyses.
Create budgets for awarded contracts.
Understand bid strategy, cost-saving initiatives, and management requirements.
Perform accurate quantity takeoffs within established timeframes.
Independently estimate entire jobs when required.
Review estimating reports (equipment hours, labor hours, key indicators, equipment balance, etc.).
Stay updated with FDOT standards and specifications.
Prepare bid submittal packages and lead estimating discussions with company executives.
Obtain clarifications on plans and specifications from owners or engineers of record.
Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors to quote different scopes of work; evaluate pricing inputs.
Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
Understand unit cost analysis and assist with pre-bid meetings and bid submittals.
Keep information updated on commodity trade prices and construction technologies/techniques.
Maintain ongoing communication with field personnel to track and adjust unit costs as necessary.
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of experience in Heavy Civil.
Must be working in a Miami office.
B.S. in Engineering or Construction Management.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Strong work ethic, integrity, and ethical standards.
Excellent organization, verbal, and written communication skills.
Knowledge of bridge and roadway construction.
Familiar with Florida soils, foundations, concrete structures, temporary systems, underground and utility work, earthwork, signaling, roadway lighting and signing, ITS, and safety standards.
Knowledge of design-build and design-bid-build contracts with FDOT and Turnpike Enterprises.
Teaching and mentoring abilities.
