Are you an experienced Estimator?\nDo you have a background in producing estimates, budgets and cash flow reports for land acquisitions?\nDo you live within a commutable distance of Exeter?\n\nI have a new vacancy for an estimator to join a well-respected developer in Exeter building sustainable new homes and communities across the south west region.\n\n Working in the commercial team you will heavily feed into the land department, with accurate development budgets, cashflows and estimates for the pre purchase of land and final budgets prior to hand over, ensuring maximum cost effectiveness of projects. \n\n✅ Summary of duties:\n\nUtilise computerised estimating/measurement software to produce accurate take-offs and cost estimates.\n\nReview and interpret tender documentation including correspondence, drawings, and specifications (both paper and digital formats).\n\nAnalyse subcontractor and supplier quotations, identifying and resolving any conditions or qualifications.\n\nDocument and record tender costs, outputs, and key data throughout the tender process.\n\nProvide value engineering input by challenging design proposals and identifying more cost-effective solutions to enhance development viability.\n\nLiaise confidently with internal teams, consultants, and external stakeholders to communicate requirements and resolve queries.\n \n✅ What’s needed:\n\nProficient in Microsoft Office packages, particularly Excel.\nExperienced in the use of estimating software (Bluebeam or similar).\nDemonstrable experience interpreting technical drawings and specifications.\nStrong written and verbal communication skills with confidence in liaising at all levels.\nDetailed knowledge of construction techniques and current building regulations.\nPrevious experience in a housing Quantity Surveying role is desirable but not essential.\n\n✅ What We’re Looking For:\n\nA proactive, solution-oriented professional with a keen eye for detail.\nAbility to prioritise and manage workload in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.\nA collaborative team player with the confidence to challenge assumptions and contribute ideas.\n\nThe ideal candidate would come from a house building background and be able to hit the ground running under minimal supervision. The client will consider an estimator from a main contractor background also.\n\n Based in Exeter, the client is able to offer a 1 day from home and 4 from the office, with occasional travel to meetings.
