Position Overview

The Estate Engineer is responsible for the overall maintenance, repair, and technical operations of estate buildings, infrastructure, and mechanical systems. This role ensures that the property, facilities, and equipment are functioning efficiently, safely, and to the highest standards. The Estate Engineer will proactively manage preventative maintenance schedules, oversee contractors and vendors, and provide hands-on technical expertise in all engineering and estate-related projects.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance & Operations

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair estate infrastructure including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, water supply, irrigation, and security systems.

  • Conduct regular checks of estate buildings, mechanical systems, and outdoor facilities to ensure proper function and safety.

  • Develop and execute preventive maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.

  • Manage upkeep of swimming pools, fountains, generators, elevators, and specialized estate equipment.

Project & Technical Management

  • Assist in planning, budgeting, and executing capital improvement or renovation projects.

  • Coordinate with architects, contractors, and vendors for engineering and construction works.

  • Ensure compliance with local building codes, safety standards, and environmental regulations.

  • Provide technical expertise in implementing energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives.

Grounds & Infrastructure Support

  • Oversee maintenance of estate roads, drainage systems, irrigation, and outdoor lighting.

  • Support landscaping and grounds teams with technical systems (irrigation pumps, lighting, drainage).

  • Monitor estate workshops, garages, and technical equipment.

Administrative & Supervisory Duties

  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, service logs, and maintenance schedules.

  • Manage and supervise technical staff, contractors, and service providers.

  • Monitor budget allocations for engineering and maintenance works.

  • Report regularly to the Estate Manager on technical operations, needs, and improvements.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Facilities Engineering (or equivalent experience).

  • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in facilities or estate engineering, preferably in luxury estates, hotels, or high-end properties.

  • Strong technical knowledge of building systems: HVAC, plumbing, electrical, BMS, irrigation, fire safety, and security systems.

  • Hands-on problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.

  • Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills.

  • Excellent communication skills; able to work with staff, contractors, and estate management.

  • Commitment to discretion, confidentiality, and maintaining the highest professional standards.

Working Conditions

  • Role requires flexibility, including occasional evenings, weekends, and emergency call-outs.

  • Hands-on work indoors and outdoors, sometimes in varying weather conditions.

  • May require lifting, climbing, or operating machinery as part of maintenance duties.
