POSITION TITLE: Environmental Services Technician

REPORTS TO: Facilities Maintenance Manager

DIRECT REPORTS: None

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt; Full-Time 40 hours weekly, Typically Monday - Friday. Flexible Schedule.

Employment-at-will position.

SCHEDULE: Work may include, day, evening, night, or weekends.

PURPOSE: The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for the daily cleaning, sanitization, and basic upkeep of Kanza facilities, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for staff, clients, and visitors. This role performs regular cleaning tasks, supports facility upkeep, and assists with event setup, reporting to the Facilities Maintenance Manager.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Clean and sanitize designated areas, including common spaces, restrooms, kitchens, and break rooms.
  2. Perform routine cleaning tasks such as dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and disinfecting surfaces.
  3. Dispose of waste materials and recyclables, ensuring proper waste management procedures.
  4. Conduct periodic deep cleaning tasks such as carpet shampooing, window washing, and high dusting.
  5. Report maintenance issues observed during cleaning, such as leaks or broken fixtures, to the Facilities Maintenance Manager.
  6. Assist with minor repair tasks when directed, such as replacing light bulbs or minor touch-ups.
  7. Monitor and restock cleaning supplies, paper products, and soap dispensers.
  8. Communicate supply needs to the Facilities Maintenance Manager to ensure adequate stock levels.
  9. Assist with setting up and breaking down furniture and equipment for events, meetings, and other Center activities.
  10. Ensure setup areas are clean and organized before and after events.
  11. Support basic outdoor tasks, including sweeping entrances, clearing walkways, and tidying exterior spaces.
  12. Assist with seasonal outdoor maintenance, such as snow removal, as needed.
  13. Follow established health and safety guidelines, including the safe handling of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  14. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required and adhere to all safety standards.
  15. Respond promptly to spills, accidents, or urgent cleaning needs to ensure safety and minimize disruptions.
  16. Assist the Facilities Maintenance Manager with emergency cleaning tasks as required.
  17. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous housekeeping, janitorial, or environmental services experience in a healthcare or similar setting .
  • Knowledge of proper cleaning methods, use of equipment, and safety practices.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean environment.
  • Dependability and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Proficient in the English .

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. Must be able to remain in a stationary position, such as standing, walking, or sitting, for extended periods throughout the workday.
  2. Frequently traversing between different areas of the facility to perform tasks, including climbing ladders, stairs, and using lifts when necessary.
  3. Regularly required to lift, move, or adjust objects weighing up to 50 pounds, including furniture, cleaning equipment, or maintenance materials.
  4. Performing repetitive tasks that may involve hand-eye coordination, such as operating cleaning or maintenance equipment and hand tools.
  5. Engaging in activities that require bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and reaching overhead or in tight spaces.
  6. Must be able to communicate effectively in person and by telephone, including hearing and responding to alarms, alerts, or emergency calls.
  7. Exposure to outdoor elements, such as varying temperatures, precipitation, and wind, when performing exterior maintenance duties or emergency tasks.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The working environment is primarily in an office and clinic setting with regular exposure to maintenance and janitorial areas. Indoor conditions generally include typical room temperatures, lighting, and ventilation, but may occasionally include noisy, dusty, or wet conditions during maintenance tasks. Work may also include outdoor duties with exposure to weather conditions such as heat, cold, wind, or rain. The role may occasionally involve working in confined spaces or at heights.

SALARY RANGE FOR THIS POSITION: Salary commensurate with experience and Kanza MHGC salary structure.
