The Environmental Scientist will oversee and perform all aspects of Waste Approvals including data entry, approval of waste streams, regulatory research and interpretation, development of Waste Approvals policies and procedures, and administrative and potentially supervisory tasks, for a Company TSDF. This position will also provide day-to-day support to the Company by providing guidance on many regulatory issues spanning hazardous waste, used oil, and various state regulations.
Essential Functions:
Manage the development of Waste Approvals policies and procedures specific to the facility's WAP and TSDF permit.
Explain and answer regulatory questions from generators, sales representatives, and Waste Approvals staff regarding waste characterization and aspects of RCRA and DOT as they relate to various waste streams
Provide assistance to other EHS managers when Waste Approvals input is required in developing company policies, procedures or programs
Interface with internal and external customers regarding CC operations and various regulatory issues related to facility compliance
Identifies and addresses potential compliance issues associated with waste streams and the facility's TSDF permit
Identify, track and report appropriate waste approval metrics for the facility. Establishes short- and long-term goals and targets to improve Waste Approvals performance
Work with TSD facilities to help streamline outbound approvals/shipments
Strong knowledge of DOT and RCRA regulations relating to solid waste, hazardous waste, and used oil, both federal regulations and state counterparts
Prior experience with waste stream approvals, particularly relating to TSDFs
Able to review and interpret TSDF permit conditions and apply them to the waste approval procedures
Ability to create Waste Approvals procedures and policies
Ability to work consistently and professionally under pressure
Strong communication skills both written and oral
Present a positive image of Crystal Clean to fellow employees, external contacts, and the general public

Education & Essential Qualifications:
5-10 years of professional experience in waste approvals
Strong working knowledge of RCRA and DOT regulations
Previous environmental project management or supervisory experience
Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or equivalent experience
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
Database knowledge such as SQL queries a plus
CCMS and Waste Linq knowledge a plus
Use of iPhone required
Technical writing
Work Environment: While performing essential duties of this position an individual regularly works indoors and may be required to sit/stand for long periods. Individuals will be required to talk, hear, see and often reach with hands, stand, and walk, use a computer keyboard, mouse, telephone, and other office equipment. This position will occasionally be required to travel by car or air to other CC locations or vendors. Personal Protective Equipment will be required for specific situations while at the facility. The anticipated salary range for this position is $75,000.00 - $95,000.00 and includes benefits such as the following:
