Job Description And Duties

Would you like to join a vibrant team that is passionate about protecting human and environmental health? If so, this may be the position for you! DTSC is hiring a Branch Chief to supervise three units of scientists, engineers, and geologists working to regulate cleanup of contaminated sites in Northern California and San Gabriel.

As an Environmental Program Manager I (Supervisory) you will have the opportunity to:

Manage and supervise subordinate supervisory engineers and scientists responsible for the evaluation and cleanup of hazardous waste contaminated properties

Ensure SMRP decisions are technically sound, innovative, consistent with DTSC goals and procedures, and protective of public health and the environment

Provide staff with support, expertise, resources, and training to make appropriate project decisions in an effective and efficient matter

Identify and procure adequate levels of resources necessary to meet staff recruitment efforts, staff development, and performance measures

Advise and consult with the Division Chiefs, Deputy Director, and Director on policy issues associated with SMRP and respond to requests from CalEPA, the Governor's Office, the Legislature, environmental and related stakeholder groups, and public regarding contaminated site cleanup issues

Manage the Branch budget and expenditures in relation to various federal grants, special funds, contracts, and cooperative agreements, ensuring that adequate funding is available for staffing needs and cleanup projects

Desirable Qualifications We Look For:

Experience successfully supervising large teams of environmental professionals

Knowledge or experience in the cleanup and remediation of properties under California law

Experience developing internal processes and procedures

Ability to communicate effectively in writing, presentations, and with the public

Experience successfully managing change and creating an environment of diverse backgrounds

Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer or Professional Geologist is a plus
