Environmental Officer, Transport and Main Roads
In the role of Environmental Officer, you will provide environmental management advice and guidance to enable the department to meet the Government's environmental obligations and commitments. Some of your responsibilities will include:Provision of specialist advice on environmental management and compliance issues for road and infrastructure works.Preparation of environmental assessment reports and environmentalmanagement mitigation measures for road and infrastructure projects by undertaking desktop and basic site environmental assessments, and assessing the environmental information against environmental best practice and the criteria outlined in legislation, manuals and specifications.Assistance in the implementation of departmental policies, methodologies, standards and specifications across the district to maximise environmental management.Assistance in the supervision of road construction and maintenance contracts in relation to environmental management, including compliance, auditing and reporting; ensuring all legislative and departmental obligations are met.Supporting the delivery of the district's maintenance preservation and operations (MPO) environmental element sub program. The environmental element sub program includes; contaminated areas, nature conservation, degraded areas, heritage preservation, invasive plants and animals, fire risk management and road traffic noise.Delivery of environmental training to district staff and associated stakeholders.Collection of environmental data for inclusion in the state-wide environmental data base. Mandatory qualifications and conditions Possession of a qualification from a tertiary institution in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Environmental Planning, Resource Management, Environmental Engineering or other equivalent qualifications.A current Class ‘C' Drivers Licence Desirable Three years or more experience in an environmental role.Experience applying Queensland environmental legislation.Experience in linear and/or transport infrastructure. Requirements of the role Ability to apply environmental knowledge and provide environmental advice to customers and stakeholders in a clear, succinct and deliberate manner, adjusting the message so that it resonates with different stakeholders.Ability to prioritise projects and tasks efficiently, in line with team commitments.Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to enable the collaborative delivery of customer-focused outcomes for the project.Ability to foster an inclusive workplace where health, safety and wellbeing is promoted and prioritised.
