Job Description
We are seeking a committed and capable Environmental Health Officer to join our client's team on a temporary basis. This role is vital in maintaining community well being by tackling nuisance and anti-social behaviour across the city.

Hourly Rate: £16.35

Employment Type: Temporary, Full-Time, Hybrid

Location: Exeter, Devon
\n
Shifts: Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm
\n
\n
Main Purpose of the Role
\n
- Investigate complaints and incidents related to nuisance (e.g. drainage, noise, fly-tipping, refuse issues) and anti-social behaviour.
\n
- Support victims and complainants while working with partner agencies to develop preventative and diversionary measures.
\n
- Provide out-of-hours and emergency response support as part of the wider service team.
\n
\n
Key Duties & Responsibilities
\n
- Handle complaints from referral to resolution, including mediation, enforcement, and legal action.
\n
- Issue Fixed Penalty Notices for environmental offences.
\n
- Collaborate with internal departments, external agencies, and community partners to address concerns.
\n
- Signpost individuals to appropriate support services when vulnerabilities are identified.
\n
- Prepare and enforce legal notices; attend court proceedings as required.
\n
- Collect and present robust evidence, including witness statements and interviews under caution.
\n
- Assist with environmental monitoring, outbreaks, and emergency situations.
\n
- Stay informed on relevant legislation and technical developments.
\n
- Participate in regular out-of-hours work to investigate complaints.
\n
- Perform any other duties appropriate to the role.
\n

What We're Looking For
\n
- Degree or diploma in Environmental Health or equivalent.
\n
- Experience in nuisance and anti-social behaviour investigations.
\n
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
\n
- Ability to work independently and manage sensitive cases.
\n
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and enforcement procedures.
\n
