Environmental Health Safety Specialist

Position Summary

The EHS Specialist will lead the enhancement of the manufacturing site’s environment, health, and safety (EHS) culture by performing a variety of activities across multiple shifts. This role supports all aspects of safety and environmental compliance in the electric yard truck industry, including EV systems, battery operations, and charging infrastructure, ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, and NFPA 70E regulations.

Position Responsibilities

  • · EHS Standards & Integrated Management System
    1. Assists in the implementation of company EHS standards and facility-specific procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory and company requirements.
    2. Participates in the development of EHS standard components, risk assessments and controls, work instructions, and training materials.
    3. Leads the integration of company and facility-level EHS management system elements to maintain regulatory compliance, environmental protection, and safe operating conditions.
  • Reporting & Documentation
    1. Reduces liability within the facility and ensures all safety and environmental risk recommendations are completed and documented.
    2. Compiles, maintains, and updates safety information for each covered process, ensuring employees and management have access to critical data.
    3. Tracks and regularly reports the status of regulatory compliance and improvement initiatives.
    4. Maintains OSHA 300, 300A, and 301 logs, as well as all other governmental and corporate EHS database records.
  • Training, Resource & Counsel
    1. Serves as a resource to the EHS Manager regarding EHS matters and acts as a daily point of contact for all EHS issues.
    2. Assists employees and leadership in understanding OSHA/EPA regulations and standards, including guidance during inspections and NOVs.
    3. Responsible for the site’s injury prevention program.
    4. Develops, facilitates, and updates EHS education and training to support regulatory and business requirements.
    5. Acts as a mentor to the facility safety team and supports a strong safety culture across departments.
    6. Investigates near misses and workplace incidents to determine root cause, recommending behavioral, environmental, or engineering improvements to prevent recurrence.
    7. Coordinates employee care and workers’ compensation claims with the Sr. Regional Occupational Health Nurse.

  • Compliance & Safety Programs
    1. Leads risk identification and mitigation efforts, including JSAs/JHAs, PPE assessments, change management programs, and audit/inspection programs.
    2. Identifies and evaluates hazardous conditions and practices, develops hazard control programs, and maintains the site’s SDS system.
    3. Reviews proposed Management of Change (MOC) activities and approves them from a safety and environmental perspective.
    4. Partners with Engineering and Maintenance to ensure compliance of new projects and equipment.
    5. Manages the industrial hygiene program, including maintaining and calibrating testing equipment and coordinating monitoring of noise and air quality.
    6. Reviews incident statistics and recommends corrective actions.
    7. Conducts regular inspections of plant machinery, equipment, and work areas to ensure compliance with safety and sanitation standards.
    8. Oversees PSM-covered process safety reviews, including pre-startup reviews, change management, and hazard analyses.
  • Continuous Improvement and Sustainability
    1. Utilizes continuous improvement (CI) methodologies to enhance safety and environmental programs.
    2. Engineers solutions to occupational exposures and drives measurable improvements in EHS performance.
    3. Evaluates emerging technologies and best practices to reduce workplace hazards and environmental impacts.
    4. Collaborative Decision-Making
    5. Works with peers and leadership to shape and execute initiatives, deferring to management for final decisions on high-risk or policy-related matters.
    6. Minimum 2–3 years of experience in industrial safety, fleet operations, or electric vehicle manufacturing.
    7. Experience with high-voltage systems, battery technologies, or yard logistics strongly .
  • Certifications:
    1. OSHA 30-hour (General Industry or Construction)
    2. First Aid/CPR certification
  • Skills:
    1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    2. Ability to lead training sessions and engage employees at all levels.
    3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and EHS management software.

Position Qualifications

  1. Ability to work in manufacturing, warehouse, and outdoor yard environments.
  2. Exposure to electric and hybrid vehicle systems, moving vehicles, battery storage areas, and charging stations.
  3. Must be able to wear PPE including safety shoes, eye protection, gloves, and hearing protection as required.
  4. May require standing, walking, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
