The Environmental Coordinator will provide on and off-site support to Project and Construction Management to identify and reduce, avoid or mitigate environmental risks, maintain construction schedule and ensure Environmental/ Regulatory compliance.  
The Environmental Coordinator will provide recommendations to Field Supervisors and work crews on avoiding or managing environmental risks, impacts or incidents during the planning and execution of Project activities. 
The Environmental Coordinator will be responsible to develop and submit accurate, timely and complete environmental reporting deliverables as per Canacre standards and Project or Regulatory Requirements.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review and understand environmental requirements and/or applicable legislation as outlined in Project documents & permits (i.e.: Project EMS, CEMP and/or Contract)
  • Maintain a positive, friendly & solution-focused attitude in order to provide excellent customer service to the Project Construction & Management team(s)
  • Review, understand and support implementation and continuous improvement of Canacre’s environmental standards
  • Support implementation with respect to the Canacre or Client Project Environmental Protection Plan (EPP)
  • Support implementation of Project Spill Prevention and Waste Management processes (i.e.: collection and storage of fuel, used oil, hazardous wastes, recyclables, etc.)
  • Proactively identify and report to the Project Environmental Lead any unforeseen environmental issues and/or considerations that may impact Project schedule or work activities (i.e.: upcoming timing restrictions, species at risk, nest sites, stream crossings or access restrictions, archaeological chance finds, etc.)
  • Ensure that any direction from the Client/Owner’s environmental representative(s) is first reviewed with, and approved by, the Construction Manager, Project Manager and/or Project Environmental Lead prior to implementation
  • Support the work of the Project Environmental Lead and other Project team members with safety, permitting, scheduling, equipment maintenance or other activities, as requested
  • Review, understand and implement routine reporting requirements as per Canacre standards
  • Produce additional environmental planning/compliance/Project delivery documents as required
  • Prepare or support preparation of permit applications and any associated tracking/compliance/closure reports as required

Perform other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in resource or environmental sciences (Biology, Forestry, Environmental Sciences, etc.) 
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in construction monitoring or environmental management
  • Strong working knowledge of environmental legislation and regulations
  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Prioritizing and decision-making skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Multi-tasking and organizational skills
  • Effective time management skills
