OBJECTIVE:

The Engineering Technician has the primary duty of conducting research and development trials related to product and/or process improvement and innovation. This position is responsible for assisting with research projects, new product development, and preparing samples by following written and oral direction while ensuring correct and accurate sample preparation. This role involves the development of protocols, conducting trials, collecting data, and reporting the results.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for R&D trial finishing runs. This includes maintaining the organization and cleanliness of the R&D area, continuous improvement, and overseeing/performing all R&D trial runs.
  • Ability to learn and perform all aspects of the Extrusion Production Technician position. (Process, Procedure, Product, and Required Technical Skills)
  • Identify, communicate, and prevent potential defects in manufacturing processes/parts before the official transition to production.
  • Lead prototype projects or short production runs (make samples, first production runs, PPAP trial, etc.)
  • Acquire the knowledge and confidence to make tool changes and process changes with minimal direct supervision.
  • Adhere to the defined quality standards and ISO.
  • Participate and assist in team activities (Attack Team, NIPIT, MRB, ZZ, Safety and Kaizen), as requested.
  • Train new/existing employees on new projects.
  • Troubleshoot and assist operators in maintaining targeted scrap and efficiency rates.
  • Communicate with supervisors, team leads, technicians, and operators on technical issues, training issues, or corrective actions.
  • When not working in R&D capacity, seek out work assignments from Engineering.
  • Complete assigned Engineering projects from start to finish within time constraints and requirements.
  • Create, edit, and maintain necessary documentation for process improvements.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This job operates in a manufacturing environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. e noise level in the manufacturing environment and job sites can be loud. The manufacturing work environment is not temperature controlled, and the employee may be exposed to high heat work conditions.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 100 pounds and routinely lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.


TRAVEL:

  • Semi frequent short distance, and infrequent long distant travel may be required.
  • Travel and interaction between Meteor Creative facilities may be required.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma/General Education Diploma (GED) is required.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a manufacturing production environment; and/or demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the above-mentioned essential functions.
  • 2+ years of Process Engineering experience .
  • Automotive Manufacturing experience is .


FUNCTIONAL/TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITY:

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills including the ability to listen attentively and to communicate information clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to always exercise good judgment and professionalism. Ability to coordinate and assist with day-to-day production functions.
  • Experience and demonstrated skills/knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook) ERP Systems, and accurate data entry.
