Job Description
We have an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Manager, reporting to the Operations Manager.
The Engineering Manager will lead all maintenance and engineering activities across the site, managing a small team to ensure the reliability, performance, and compliance of all equipment, machinery, and infrastructure. The role will drive a proactive maintenance culture, embedding TPM (including AM and PPM), delivering continuous improvement, and supporting operational efficiency, safety, and regulatory compliance.
The main key responsibilities will include:
- Lead TPM execution, integrating Autonomous Maintenance (AM), Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM), and reactive maintenance to drive equipment reliability.
- Deliver predictive and preventive maintenance programmes aligned to key failure modes and performance standards.
- Ensure robust follow-up of TPM actions, embedding continuous improvement and eliminating repeat failures.
- Provide day-to-day leadership and technical support to Maintenance Technicians, while also supporting manufacturing personnel, by driving a proactive, reliability-focused culture.
- Plan, allocate, and prioritise maintenance workload in line with operational demand, balancing AM, PPM, and reactive activities.
- Monitor and drive performance against KPIs (OEE, downtime, MTTR), identifying trends and leading targeted improvement initiatives.
- Lead engineering activities including installations, upgrades, and process improvements, with a strong focus on root cause analysis and sustainable corrective actions.
- Manage maintenance budgets, spare parts, and inventory control, ensuring availability of critical spares and cost control.
- Oversee contractor and supplier performance, ensuring quality, compliance, and value delivery.
- Lead CAPEX projects from planning through to installation and commissioning.
- Promote a strong safety culture, ensuring full compliance with H&S regulations (LOTO, PTW, PUWER, LOLER).
- Maintain safe systems of work, RAMS, and support ISO/BSI audit requirements.
- Oversee facilities maintenance and drive high standards of 5S and housekeeping.
Ensure accurate, timely maintenance reporting to support operational control and decision-making.
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:
- Proven technical knowledge in mechanical/electrical ie. City & Guilds, NVQ, Apprentice trained, multi skilled electrical/mechanical.
- HNC/HND in Engineering.
- ILM or NVQ Team leading certificate.
- IOSH managing safely certificate.
- Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma certification, or continuous improvement methodologies.
- Proven experience as a Manager within a manufacturing environment
- Strong Team-oriented leadership, organisational and communication skills
- Computer literate in Microsoft applications including SAP.
- Strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated success in reducing downtime and improving equipment reliability.
- Understanding of preventative and predictive maintenance practices.
