Job DescriptionJob Description

At Trunk Tools, we’re the leading AI company revolutionizing construction—the second-largest industry on earth. We recently raised a $40M Series B led by Insight Partners, bringing our total funding to $70M from top-tier investors including Redpoint and Innovation Endeavors. This new round is fueling our next phase of growth as we scale AI agents across the jobsite.

Our mission is to build the future of construction through intelligent automation. Despite being a $13+ trillion industry, construction still runs largely on analog processes—we’re changing that by embedding AI directly into field operations.

Founded by builders and technologists (Stanford, MIT), our team has delivered software used by over 140,000 field professionals, impacting millions of users and contributing to $10B+ in built projects. Many of us come from the field ourselves, giving us a deep understanding of the industry’s unique challenges.

After years of building the “brain” of construction, we’re now launching production-ready AI agents—starting with intelligent document processing and Q&A, and rapidly expanding into core operational workflows. Our team has doubled in the past year, and with 65+ employees (25+ engineers), we’re scaling fast and entering a period of hypergrowth—this is a rare opportunity to join at an inflection point.

Our product engineering team sits at the heart of this strategy—owning the development of the core AI-powered experiences that power our platform, from initial concept through launch and ongoing iteration. As part of this group, you’ll work on products that builders will use daily in high-stakes environments, help shape the technical architecture that underpins our AI agents, and collaborate across product, design, and field teams to deliver tools that transform how construction teams work.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and grow a cross-functional engineering squad responsible for one or more of our core AI-driven product areas (e.g., TrunkText, TrunkSubmittal, schedule optimization, or new agent-driven workflows).

  • Own the delivery pipeline—from ideation and design through development, testing, and deployment—ensuring high quality, reliable, and user-centric product releases.

  • Partner with Product and Design to set a clear roadmap, establish priorities, and break down complex problems into elegant, scalable solutions.

  • Translate customer feedback and field insights into actionable engineering plans, balancing speed of delivery with long-term technical vision.

  • Mentor engineers on architecture, best practices, and execution; foster a collaborative, learning-driven environment.

  • Ensure performance, reliability, and scalability for products running in high-stakes, live jobsite contexts.

  • Contribute to hiring, onboarding, and retaining top technical talent as we expand the team.

What We're Looking For

Must-Haves:

  • 7+ years experience in software engineering, with at least 4 years in a leadership role.

  • Proven track record of shipping high-impact, customer-facing products.

  • Strong technical depth in building scalable, secure web applications.

  • Ability to translate business goals and customer pain points into clear technical priorities.

  • Excellent communication skills—comfortable working closely with both engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Experience in construction tech, vertical SaaS, or complex enterprise workflows.

  • Familiarity with large-scale integrations as they relate to product functionality.

  • Background in AI product development or autonomous agents.
