We are looking for you to join our team as an Engineering Manager 2 based out of Sunnyvale, CA. This Manager 2 role is responsible for providing functional leadership and direction to approximately 10 to 15 engineers covering multiple disciplines such as Mechanical, Structural, Acoustic, and Systems Engineering. This department is the focal point of production support activities in the area of propulsion and power equipment for Nuclear Navy. Their expertise includes product development and production support for large rotating mechanical systems. They produce work products such as engineering drawings, technical reports and nonconformance resolution.

As an engineering manager, the candidate will work to ensure all staffing needs are met, drives talent development, and instill a culture of technical ownership amongst the engineering team. The responsibilities include managing the planning, preparation, execution, associated with machinery production, machinery tests, maintaining the development of the necessary resources, tools and capabilities to support the execute these actions. Further responsibilities include managing the resolution of critical issues occurring during production, test, and in service. The hardware is in Sunnyvale and at field sites.

The candidate will lead a diverse and distributed team comprised of multiple skill-sets and experience levels. The candidate must be able to effectively communicate on technical issues and solutions with functional, program, and customer leadership. A successful track record of program performance, interpersonal team building skills, and management experience is a must.

Responsibilities also include:

  • Manage day-to-day activities for engineering, including resource planning, procedure review, critical skills management and development, continuous improvement in both process and product, along with critical problem resolution.

  • Manage budgets and provide guidance to Engineering regarding costs with focus on implementing lean principles to improve efficiency and reduce cost.
  • \n

  • Manage the design, construction, and assembly of tactical hardware and ensure proper maintenance of applicable procedures.
  • \n

  • Manage the resolution of emergent issues in a timely manner while keeping upper management informed of the progress including participating in root cause and correction action investigations.
  • \n

  • Manage non-conformance resolutions in the areas of gears, hydrodynamic bearings, complex weldment structures, and turbines.
  • \n

  • Track critical skills within your team's domain to ensure knowledge is retained
  • \n

  • Implement formal mentoring and training programs for personnel towards improving their skills, performance and technical knowledge.
  • \n

  • Develop and maintain up-to-date knowledge transfer plans, succession plans and employee career-path plans.
  • \n

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline with 8 years of relevant engineering experience; OR a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline with 6 years of relevant engineering experience

  • US Citizenship required.
  • \n

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
  • \n

  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams.
  • \n

  • Proven ability to perform problem analysis and resolution including Root Cause Investigations using lean and continuous improvement tools.
  • \n

  • Experience with design, integration, and testing of mechanical systems
  • \n

  • Ability to organize and manage multiple products/programs with the focus on delivering within cost and on schedule.
  • \n

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline ( Electrical Engineering or Controls).

  • Experience as a Technical Lead, Project Manager, or other demonstrated leadership role related to program execution.
  • \n

  • Experience with large scale rotating machinery, especially in naval applications.
  • \n

  • Experience with turbine design.
  • \n

  • Experience with design and integration of complex electro-mechanical systems.
  • \n

  • Understanding and knowledge of Agile (SCRUM) techniques and activities.
  • \n

  • Experience with proposals development and Earned Value Management Systems.
  • \n

  • Knowledge of Systems Engineering processes, procedures and work instructions required to support both management and engineering tasks.
  • \n

Primary Level Salary Range: $146,600.00 - $219,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
