Job Description

We’re supporting an innovative green tech focused on smart urban infrastructure in their search for an experienced Engineering Manager. In this role, you’ll lead a high-performing IoT team and take ownership of building and scaling a robust platform that manages thousands of smart hardware devices in the field.


This role is ideal for someone with strong technical expertise, leadership acumen and a strategic mindset!


Your Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead and mentor a 5 person engineering team (with further growth planned). Foster a collaborative culture and support personal development.
  • Platform Ownership & Scaling: Take technical responsibility for a fast-growing IoT infrastructure (currently 7,500+ devices). Ensure scalability, stability, and continuous improvement.
  • Hands-on Technical Leadership: Support architectural decisions and provide guidance on complex issues – with occasional hands-on involvement in Python, Linux and Bash.
  • Strategic Collaboration: Work closely with Product, Hardware Engineering, and Operations. Define and execute the roadmap, manage resources, and prioritize effectively.
  • Culture & Recruiting: Build and nurture a strong team culture with clear perspectives. Support recruiting and onboarding of new team members.


Qualifications:

  • Proven experience leading tech teams (2–4 years)
  • Hands-on experience with configuration and troubleshooting of IP networks (TCP/IP, routing)
  • Strong programming skills in Python (hands-on)
  • Deep understanding of Linux operating system architecture and experience using Docker as a virtualization tool
  • Experience managing IoT device fleets (at least 500+ devices)
  • Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure in the context of IoT fleet management (telemetry, OTA updates, remote access, message brokers)
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Strategic thinking and the ability to challenge and evaluate complex ideas
  • Fluent in English
  • Availability to work onsite in Munich 3 days per week


You’ll stand out if you bring…

  • Experience with embedded Linux build systems (e.g., Yocto).
  • Exposure to AIoT technologies (e.g., Machine Learning, Computer Vision).
  • Familiarity with IoT-specific messaging protocols (e.g., MQTT).
  • Knowledge of SQL, algorithms, and system architecture.
  • Background in building scalable platforms in the smart device domain.
  • Experience in technical recruiting.
  • Experience working in interdisciplinary, cross-functional teams.
