Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a cross-functional engineering team focused on the design, development, and support of automated industrial machinery in our facilities. The role combines technical leadership with people and project management responsibilities to deliver safe, reliable, and manufacturable equipment on schedule and within budget. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in engineering management, deep familiarity with industrial machinery, and the ability to drive continuous improvement across design and manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and grow a multidisciplinary engineering team (mechanical, electrical, controls, and manufacturing engineers) to deliver high-quality machinery designs and sustainment.
- Own program and project delivery: define scope, establish schedules, manage budgets, allocate resources, and ensure on-time completion while meeting performance and safety requirements.
- Set technical direction and design standards for machinery development, ensuring designs are robust, maintainable, and manufacturable.
- Collaborate closely with Manufacturing, Operations, Quality, and Supply Chain to optimize product design for production, assembly, and serviceability.
- Drive process improvement initiatives, introduce lean practices, reduce cycle time, and improve first-pass yield and reliability.
- Ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards, including NFPA 70 and NFPA 79 where applicable, and lead risk assessments and design reviews to maintain regulatory and safety requirements.
- Manage vendor relationships and support sourcing decisions for major components and assemblies, including technical evaluation and qualification.
- Oversee test plans, validation activities, and field trials; analyze test data and lead corrective actions to address performance or reliability issues.
- Champion continuous improvement and knowledge sharing by developing engineering processes, documentation practices, and training programs.
- Represent engineering in cross-functional leadership meetings, communicate technical status to stakeholders, and escalate issues with proposed mitigations.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related engineering discipline; Masters degree .
- 5+ years of progressive engineering leadership or management experience, with direct responsibility for an engineering team delivering industrial machinery or heavy equipment.
- Demonstrated experience with industrial machinery design, systems integration, and life-cycle support.
- Strong background in engineering management: project planning, resource allocation, budgeting, and performance management.
- Proven track record of working with Manufacturing and Process Improvement initiatives (lean, Six Sigma, or equivalent) to improve throughput and product quality (nice to have).
- Hands-on experience with mechanical design and electrical design practices, drawing review, BOM management, and controls integration (nice to have).
- Familiarity with electrical standards and machine safety standards, including NFPA 70 and NFPA 79 (nice to have).
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with experience presenting technical material to senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
- Willingness to travel to manufacturing sites and customer locations as required.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, Six Sigma) are a plus.
