Design Engineering Manager
Location: Beloit, WI
Salary: $110,000 – $140,000 + Bonus (Approx. 10%)
Schedule: Monday – Friday | 8:00am – 5:00pm
About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Design Engineering Manager to lead product development and engineering operations within a highly regulated heavy fabrication manufacturing environment. This is a high-visibility leadership role overseeing design engineers responsible for pressure vessels, cargo tank motor vehicles, and bulk liquid transport equipment.
This position is ideal for a strategic, hands-on engineering leader with deep knowledge of ASME pressure vessel standards, DOT regulations, and welded structure design.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of Design Engineers (3 direct reports)
- Oversee product development, engineering schedules, and design processes
- Ensure compliance with ASME Section VIII, 49 CFR (Cargo Tank Motor Vehicles), DOT, and ISO standards
- Manage engineering budgets, timelines, and cross-functional project execution
- Perform and review FEA analysis for pressure vessels and welded sheet metal structures
- Support new product introduction and production ramp-up
- Collaborate closely with manufacturing, sales, and executive leadership
- Drive continuous improvement, automation initiatives, and innovation
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering
- 10+ years of experience in welding/fabrication or heavy manufacturing industries
- Prior leadership experience managing mechanical or design engineering teams
- 5+ years of experience applying ASME Section VIII Div. 1 (Design by Rule)
- 7+ years of experience with 49 CFR design, testing, and fabrication requirements for cargo tank motor vehicles
- 3+ years of FEA experience related to pressure vessels and welded structures
- Experience designing with carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum welded construction
- Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD
- Strong project and resource management skills
Qualifications
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
- Experience with automation and advanced manufacturing processes
- ERP system experience
